Those look amazing. Since the potatoes are so fine, it almost resembles a kind of fried mashed potato ball, of which I heartily approve.

I should pack up and tell my boss I'm going home for the day, because that last line? My Monday, nay, my LIFE can only go downhill afterwards.

Ugh, LMM, you need to STOP IT with those faces, you are too adorable.

Speaking of, someone's working on the "If Lin-Manuel Miranda Were Your Boyfriend" article, right?

Right?

Also also - agreed with the lack of ladies saying anything. It was the only thing which bugged (okay, that and the EXTREME CLOSE-UPS. I want to see the staging! I want to see the cast!) Three different segments and you couldn't show Phillipa or Renee Elise answering at least one question?

Fun ramping-up to Halloween plans, anybody?

We are going to my wife's work party this evening, and on Sunday as both a pre-Halloween and post-anniversary fun thing, we're doing brunch and then catching the TCM Dracula double feature. Then next Friday, a local theater that has a Wurlizter organ is showing the original silent Phantom of the Opera.

Oh god, the end of Freak Show was THE WOOOOORST. Let's kill every character that was still halfway decent about ten minutes in via shooting spree! Then let's follow Elsa's climb to fame and fortune with absolutely no punishment whatsoever!

(not sure how to embed gifs, sorry)

I can absolutely see your point. Interestingly enough it was for precisely those reasons I ended up enjoying Asylum when all was said and done - it utilized fears I 100% relate to. The 'conversion therapy' Sarah Paulson's character went through, and what happened to Sister Jude near the end, those are things that get to me on a very visceral, relatable level.

My main issue with Coven (beyond the racial implications, which, I completely agree with Nicole - stay in your lane, Ryan Murphy) was the lack of stakes. To me, when you introduce the concept that characters can be brought back to life at any point, you take a lot of the dramatic tension out of the story. Which is a shame, because I really wanted to love Coven!

Oh, absolutely. Looking back on Asylum it was a *glorious* mess - I think my problem was, watching it week to week as I did, I had serious doubts about whether or not they'd be able to tie everything together. And at the time, the Anne Frank thing was just so unbelievably audacious I kind of couldn't believe it was happening, which may have colored my opinion.

However, comparing it to Coven or (ugh) Freak Show, Asylum was far superior and definitely managed to stick its landing in what felt like earned and moving ways. The characters (at least Sarah Paulson's and Evan Peters') were people who made choices and lived with them. Both of which were things that didn't happen in Coven or Freak show, in my opinion.

I have to say looking at all of the seasons in retrospect, Murder House was probably the strongest overall. At the time I was watching it, I thought Asylum was an utter disaster, but now, in the light of Coven and Freak Show, I think it holds up far better.
