If their money is is compromising the interests of elected officials in favor of the few, then absolutely. I have no problem with the concept of a union as long as they provide a competitive product without providing any unfair influence to the market - that is if select group of people can provide higher quality and/or increased productivity, I see no problem with them being paid a premium. Unfortunately, most unions as we see today tend to be a monopoly on the local labor force - both in terms of labor provided and labor available to those who choose not to join the union.

As far as "environmental wackos" are concerned, I can see the value in reducing pollutants and preserving our our countryside so that it doesn't look like what you see in several third world countries. As an engineer that has done some work in the power industry, I think that the regulations we have today are a little over the top - but that's just an opinion. I am not a big fan of using junk science to create new industries where people with political ties can get a leg up and make more money (as I see it, shares of the US economy) to the detriment of the number of shares an honest worker has in the same economy.

The ultimate straw man.

Lets create a system where the government takes money from Joe Average worker, siphon's the money off to the governments corporate buddies/sponsors while simultaneously debasing the currency by printing more dollars (or equity/ shares of US economy/ etc.) that can get distributed back to their corporate buddies. If we call this system "capitalism" enough, people will actually believe it is capitalism. Once this belief is widespread, we will attack the concept of capitalism.

Brilliant!

If we are so serious about having capitalism work again, why don't we vote for representatives that will limit our bureaucracy's ability to siphon off our work efforts to the oligarchy? I guess that would require a populace with a modicum of critical reasoning for this to ever happen... Eff it...keep voting for whomever the media tells you to vote for. After all, the media is out for your best interests. They don't give a crap about those paying for their existence, right?

Older article, but it illustrates the point.

The reason to lose faith has nothing to do with voter stupidity. Unfortunately, the voters will vote for their pocketbook. Government Inertia is a mofo.

The sad thing is that she is most likely saying this because more than half of our citizens are dumb enough to buy it.

Is that weasel speak for "how are we supposed to keep fleecing our citizens if all the other countries are getting a larger piece of the pie?"

These are great words coming from a country whose motivated citizens help create an economic adantage for decades.

What a bunch of morons. Anybody with half a brain knows that if you want to get that kind of money from the US government you need to obtain an executive position at a bank and then drive it into the ground.

I assume foreign banks still aren't touching our debt with a ten foot pole. Who thinks our TARP banks are getting bullied into doing so?

I wonder where the law of unintended consequences will take this one, considering the Fed's skirts aren't lilley white in the whole financial mess. To me, I see an organization with a lot of influence and power about to dictate several financial decisions within our country.

Maybe, and this is just one crazy opinion, the Fed should just concentrate on monetary policy and maintaining what little credibility the dollar has left. Especially with all these rumblings of China wanting to dump our debt on the market.
