It not only tells an engrossing tale of a guy bucking the status quo for something he believes in, but there are some wonderful sub plots. I don't care who wrote it, produced it, directed it, or financed it. Heck, I even forgot the main character was Brad Pitt about ten minutes into it.
Oh, and the ending, when Pete brought Billy into the film room, was perfect.

What happened to debating content? Leave the name calling to those who truly are bankrupt of ideas. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them a troll. And what's all this "I've got a picture--you don't have a picture" crap? In the arena of ideas, the ability to get your viewpoint across in a clear and concise manner is the only thing that counts.
And you kids get off my lawn!

Why now? They had the thing pretty much bottled up and ultimately could have just claimed it was lost. Now there is a good chance for something much more damaging. Curious.

All of history before the crucifixion laid the groundwork for the perfect sacrifice to be made and the plan of salvation. That mankind did not have to follow the god of this world to ultimate doom. That even someone like me, as retched as I am, could find forgiveness and life. Any other idea about community organizing and such means less than nothing compared to this.
All this stumbling around, trying to compare the Son of God to anyone, much less the current occupant of the White House, brings to mind a curious recent statement by President Obama: "We are reminded that there's something about the Resurrection, something about the Resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ, that puts everything else in perspective."
Say what?! "Something about?" This is not the statement of someone who understands what the death and resurrection of our Savior means.
