That is easy. Your so called 'surplus' was strictly based on an unrealistic forecast of future revenues to make it appear that we were carrying a surplus. Remember the 2000 election when George W. Bush stated that we were entering a recession? That was indeed the case and due partly to the burst of the 'dot.com' bubble. He stated the truth and was blasted for it. Some congressmen even accused him of 'talking down the economy'.

By January of 2009 we were in full blown recession and by summer of 2001 we were suffering through severe job losses. Then came 9/11, which only added to the economic downturn. I know this first hand because my industry was devastated. Trade shows were cancelled because people were afraid to fly and the ripple effect destroyed a lot of companies.

Ask yourself this question and be honest. Considering the fact that we were entering a recession in November 2010 and the devastating impact 9/11 had on an already bad economic situation do you really believe that Al Gore would have done much better? Do you think Al Gore should have raised taxes?

Here is something you should consider. We are $14 trillion in debt through no fault of the American taxpayers. The US government has misspent our hard earned dollars and it now appears as if there is no end in sight. Should we be expected to give more money to fund ever expanding government programs when our representatives have shown so little respect for the average citizen and little concern as to how they waste our tax dollars?

So you say that as a CEO your excess income would go to buying yachts or cars. Fair enough, after all it is your money. Do you run your business under budget? And if not what happens when you are over budget? I'll bet you cut expenditures or forgo the purchase of equipment or hiring new employees. If you run a publicly traded company I'll guarantee you that your shareholders would have something to say about wasteful spending. As taxpayers, why shouldn't we expect the same from our government?

So you really believe that if Isreal gave up the West Bank there would be peace on the land? I am unconvinced based on the conditions in Gaza. Arms smuggling is rampant.

You do remember that Hamas is recognized as a legitimate party by the Palestinians? Even you, aynwrong, must recognize that Hamas is a terrorist organization. Iran's support of Hamas says everything.

You talk as though the Palestinian Authority is completely separate from Hamas. Wasn't the great Palestinian leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Yasser Arafat the spokesman for Hamas?

So tell me, aynwrong, what happened when Isreal gave up the West Bank to the Palestinians? Did it encourage the Palestinians to act in good faith? More likely, the Palestinians who elected Hamas have become emboldened.

Even though I am no fan of Wikileaks, some of the leaks have shed light on the fact that Iran is sponsoring terrorism through Hamas.

You need to see the movie 'The Final Solution'. It is an historical account of the meeting of Nazi SS and German Politicos on what to do about the Jews. The Nazi regime considered the Jewish population no better than cattle to be herded and slaughtered.

Next time you are in the grocery store look around for some of the older shoppers. On rare occasion you may find one with a series of numbers tattooed to their wrist. Ask them how they got those numbers and then be sure to tell them that you believe that Jerusalem's policies are the same as Nazi Germany's.

No_teaparty, I believe you are the one who is out of touch with reality. These are not 'tax cuts', these are an extension of the current rates.

BTW: most Americans realize that it is not the government's money, it is OUR money. You would do well to remember that next time you blather on about 'tax cuts'!
