I worry that there will be many objections and groups blocking the transparency of records from the Bush administration. They were covered up for reason, many to protect the incompetency and corruption. I think things will bog down quickly opening past records. But we can have a clean slate going forward.

The president should rescind Executive Order 13233 to remove impediments to access to historical presidential records. While Congress may need to take additional action to ensure access to past presidential records, the president can play a key role by immediately eliminating E.O. 13233, which limits access to records of former U.S. presidents. He should also instruct his Government Transparency Officer to identify additional steps beyond the first 100 days to strengthen access to past presidential records.

Can President Obama eliminate E.O. 13233 on his own or will congress need to be involved?
