Thank you for your kind words. I wish your family the same blessings as you've bestowed on mine

I think you have a point in that yes as a cousin there is mitigated responsibility but remember they are no ordinary cousins. These are public figureheads that do a very hard job of convincing the public that they care about the country opening institutions and laying wreaths for the war dead - its all good PR and I am sure they are emotionally invested in it.

However, this small kindness is one that would merit no press coverage and no PR advantage and to even send a card or attend a funeral would hardly be taxing on the royal's time. This suggests that their altruistic public services is actually little more than selfish PR gorging.

Again I stress - this is aimed at the royals yes but more to those that have loved ones that are institutionalised and have been abandoned by the reader

I am sorry for your loss but being ill is a big difference from having learning difficulties. I agree in some cases in deteriorating circumstances institutional care may be needed for the safety and wellbeing of the person like in the case of your father.

However this is not such a case. This is one of a lifetime of ambivalance in light of ones social status. These girls were merely an inconvenience

I disagree. Because they were rich they would have easily been able to afford a minder and or healthcare professionals that would have tended to them quite easily. Speaking from experience the hardest thing today living with someone with learning difficulties is financial - second the practical (24hour Care) and thirdly and distantly the medical.

People with learning difficulties are usually nothing less than overgrown children so if we don't institutionalise babies and toddlers for being helpless and needy just because they are cute and acceptable, then why do it to older children / adults.

Its all down to stigmas and perceptions. These people had the room and resources to provide for these girls but instead opted to disregard them as an inconvenient embarrassment plain and simple

Why should a monarch 'inherit' the leadership of the Church anyway? maybe the Royal family should relinquish this pointless title as 'defender of the faith'. The COE and COI (For which the Queen is also the head) need a Christian leader whose faith merit the title.

As for the Orange Order - well done for doing this on Remembrance day. Glad to see you have your priorities right. And to rebut their argument - the spouse of the monarch as nothing to do with the Church.

Why do the English think they are / should be invincible? The Spanish, Brazilian, Italian, Argentine etc teams are filled with guys that have vast amounts of experience in playing in different leagues hence the reason the premiership is so good. However, English players with the exception of 5 in the past 10-15 years all opt for staying at home. Thats no good if you're wanting to learn how the Spanish play football. The Spanish know how the Spanish play football but they also know how the English play as most of their big player are / have played in the premiership. Until this changes then England will only be as good as their inbred team can teach themselves. No wonder a proverbial schoolboy German team gave them the spanking of a lifetime and I see a similar fate next summer

Theres a long way to go yet but we can be proud of ourselves for the strides we have taken as communities. Its stories like this that bring home the reality of a more peaceful life we now enjoy. Personally speaking I would have preferred the NIPD :)
