Well folks, looks like another "Stamper Bro" has left the building. A bit of deja vu, but a little earlier than last time. If Rare is relegated to making kinect games while their ip gets contracted out to other developers what's going to happen to Majoang in the next few years?
In addition to current footage, tell us exactly where you want the game to go. Give us a reason why the extra time needed to get the game there. Throw in a ton of stuff that the Wii U version will have over the the others and you might have me come around.
A lot of great companies were started out of garages. Amazon and Apple to name a few. It's great to see a Nintendo doing their best to replicate all the advantages a small start up has. It seems that they understand that great ideas and gameplay is born from small independent developer mindset not bloated projects that are under so much pressure to succeed that they can't do anything that hasn't been done before.
Headed back this year once again with my 3D camera (plus upgrades). No press pass though so I guess I sitting out on this closed media event. BTW anyone in the gamer press need a 3D photographer. ;-)
Yay! Guess who's going. ;-)
Agreed. Sony really has to be very careful how they handle this. In the upcoming battle between Morphius and Oculus Rift price point, features, how well controls are integrated . . . and a bit of luck will determine the winner. I've tried the Oculus Rift at PAX and hopefully I'll get to try Morphius eventually.
Hmm . . . I really smell the stink of politics behind this "meh" attitude their PR/Sales department is putting up with all of the Wii U version news. (Sigh) To be a fly on the wall to really get to see/hear what is really going on behind closed doors. In the short term, I fear that we will slowly see all of these big third parties turn up their noses at Nintendo and their fans. The Wii U user base is currently neck and neck with the PS4 and the 3Ds has decimated the competition. Are third parties so blinded by the money that Sony and Microsoft put up front that they commit business suicide with any games they put on the Wii U?
Yeah, this is starting to stink, kinda like what happened between EA and Nintendo. I suspect that this stink/disturbance in the force is due to Ubisoft eating out of the same bean can that EA has been.
Nintendo right now is working on the long game. They are building up talent in the "farm system" of the gaming industry. Microsoft and Sony are just throwing their money around to grab up veteran free agents. Without a salary cap, prices for these free agents is sky high. So in the short term, Nintendo may not win in the short term, but the future looks bright.
Another thing, Indies are the future. Right now a lot of the big Western third parties are refusing to play ball or relegating the Wii U to third/fourth string console. A lot of this has to do with what they are able to get in money from Sony and Microsoft. These arrogant third parties rule the roost on the PS4 and Xbox One, and they know it. If they go down, those consoles, propped up by them, will collapse. So instead of kowtowing to their demands Nintendo has chosen to embrace Indies.
The indies run the spectrum of genres and quality, from the well funded Star Citizen to the smaller and 8bit Shovel Knight. Some play well other don't. Personally I have looked quite a few over and the most promising ones I have even contributed to their Kickstarter campaigns. Any game company has to start somewhere and in this modern era Kickstarter/Crowdfunding is where it's at. Once the best ones have seen success, who's to say that they won't turn into a large third party of the future? Hopefully they will stay mindful of their roots and keep that independent experimental spirit that got them there in the first place.
