Just a heads up, but many of these things were probably illegal reasons to withhold a deposit! It sounds like many of them would fall under "normal wear and tear," which is to be expected and can't be held against the renter. I'm not a lawyer, but please everyone check your state rental laws!

I'm sorry but I fundamentally disagree with saying that Ben isn't a misogynist because he acts abashed under scrutiny. Furthermore, "called for boys and men to divorce their self-worth from the acceptance or rejection of women. Despite the woman-positive message..." just doesn't scan for me. It's, I guess I'll call it an overly ameliorative interpretation; that message could just as easily mean "stop paying attention to what women think" which hardly seems woman-positive. I'd also (reluctantly) suggest that the author dive a little deeper into the pick-up-artist culture that Ian is involved in, because the things Ben was writing could come right out of it.

Valentines plans: counting down the hours until post-valentines chocolate sales. It's so much better and cooler and more fulfilling than being in a relationship.

Please more creepy/goosebumpy things! I love the way the story collapses everything - the characters, the beach, the sea - until there is nothing left but the multicorporeal grasp; everything has been subsumed and smothered by the red hands.

Very high hairlines were considered fashionable in some renaissance times/places (women would pluck to get it fashionably high), so I assume that's what they're going for there. Also I don't think that's a baby; the baby's with the wetnurse while Agnes cradles a sack of flour.

Third from the bottom: I'm pretty sure he's trying to get her to swallow a pill. Maybe wrap it in cheese first?

Anyway this reminded me of a site that had hilariously bad examples of medieval/renaissance artists trying and failing to depict women's bodies, especially breasts. edit - I couldn't find it, but I did find this somewhat related, very interesting brief article about Michelangelo's depictions of women: https://renresearch.wordpress.com/2011/02/11/men-...

Housemate: "Look, I know the past week's been a pain, but you can -"
Me: Eel City.
"I just don't think....I mean, you'll be fine. You've got a lot on your plate but-"
EEL CITY.

I kick over the table, and with tears in my eyes I turn to gaze at the distant horizon. The wind stirs and whispers "come on let’s all go..."

I've always loved the sound a musical saw makes, but for some reason I never thought about it as an instrument, or about why people chose it. Now I wish I knew how to play it. This was a beautiful piece.

Aw, thanks! My internet social life is pretty active, lol. I also stay in contact with friends who are currently living in funner places -- they're my lifeline.

I'm trapped in the boonies - a town of under 2000 people in the rural Bible Belt; I wish I had some good advice but I've pretty much failed to make the urban to rural transition. I work from home so meeting coworkers isn't an option. I tried joining the library book club, but it was cancelled due to lack of interest : (. There's one bar in town, but it's not my kind of place...let's just say that one time I felt unsafe there, and another time I got invited to a house part, only to flee once I realized people were smoking meth there. The fact that I'm like, really queer probably isn't doing me any favors here, especially when it comes to dating. Right now my plan is to save every penny until I can flee back to a city.
