All this talk of bee reproduction has me hankering for another 'If ____ were your girlfriend / boyfriend' article. I feel like it's been a while since we had one and there are some big crushes that are criminally missing from the list.
I don't have any TFA recommendations I'm afraid, since it's not something I really really cared to explore fandom-wise. But I do have some stellar Fury Road and Dragon Age bookmarks tucked away. I suppose it depends if you're after the slash, or the het in that case. The Fury Road fandom has to have some of the best written het-smut I've ever read, which could be because it taps into my personal preference for strong woman getting all the taking care of. Dragon Age is full of fantastic writers in general, no matter your fancy.
I'm ashamed to admit how many times I saw that first crappy prequel Star Wars at the cinema for that very reason. I have no idea why the idea of Qui-Gon Jinn x Obi Wan appealed to my teen brain at the time, because god knows none of the characters had any chemistry at all in any of the prequels, but between my then best friend and I we just couldn't get enough of them!
We used to sit on the floor of her bedroom and pass a notebook back and forth between us, writing a paragraph of shippy fic each.
What kind of fanfiction are we talkin' here, before I embarrass myself with my recommendations.
Oh my god yes please! The idea of the Italian Job team being comprised entirely of vehicle and grand larceny savvy women save big grump Jason Statham as our gun-ho token fella sidekick had me won, but now I'm thinking replace Wahlberg with someone like Hilary Swank and it would be my new favourite movie. Please deliver this pitch immediately to someone that can get it done with this exact cast.
Michelle Pfeiffer playing Bob/Bet Harris.
I wanted to add some of my own suggestions, but I tend to think most movies would benefit from a lesbian retelling.
Oh hey thanks! How did I miss this one?
I have to wonder if her seemingly out of character answer to that question had anything to do with her family's unfortunate involvement with the Jehovah's Witness religious cult. I have some experience with that particular high control group and they instil an extreme patriarchal, victim-blame mentality in their members, particularly in regards sexual abuse, using some very psychologically manipulative techniques. I don't know if you've been following the big child abuse court cases that have be levied at the Witnesses recently, but the scale of the appalling silencing and blaming of victims has only just started to become apparent.
These ideas can stay with members long after they leave. It can take them years to work through and fully understand all the bizarre viewpoints they've had hammered home and I hear echoes of that in Serena's answer.
Me too. I feel a bit like I'm watching someone offer an animal a bit of food only to yoik it away when they tentatively go to grab it. It was pretty funny to begin with, but I've crossed a threshold now and please just give the poor thing the food, you know? It really wants it.
