I recently heard a pastor on a news program speaking about the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. He said that some of the men in his congregation wanted to help the people rebuild, so they took a group down to the devastated area and started handing out food and supplies. He said that trip was very enlightening; those people had just lost everything (even loved ones), yet rather than banding together under a common bond of loss, they dealt with their benefactors in basically two vastly different ways: the people who were accustomed to working for a living offered to help unload trucks and pass out supplies; while those who were accustomed to government support were confrontational and demanding.
