Abraham Lincoln FTW!!!
Ok, on a serious note, I guess I have some questions about the whole RtW thing. I completely understand the notion of "Right to Work (for less)" and employees being offered lower wages for not being in a Union, which is crappy. But I also would be super upset if I needed a job but was essentially denied the position because I didn't want to join a union and shell out extra money for dues (that I didn't have, for sake of this argument) every month or annually. And lets say I knew nothing about this union to begin with; I am not going to put my money into an organization whose members or activities I don't know much about.
I guess this is coming from the fact that where I grew up in southern PA, many people worked factory line jobs, and many workers were members of labor unions. But across the board I heard nothing but horror stories about the internal corruption of those unions. When my younger brother got a night job working at a cabinet factory, he was approached by a group of union members, pressuring him to join (and of course, he was like 19 and knew nothing about who they were or what they did) and was treated like crap to the point of voluntarily leaving his job when he declined their membership.
So...I guess I'm saying that I don't fully understand why the RtW legislation is that bad. Maybe you lovely folks have some insight or opinions to help me flesh out my thoughts about all this.

Call me callous, but I absolutely find funerals and preserving the dead to be 100% ridiculous and selfish. You want to pump your loved one full of chemicals waste a bunch of money so you can (maybe) feel some closure? Everybody dies, them's the breaks. If you cannot emotionally handle thinking about someone you love being dead right this very minute, you need to find a therapist to talk about it with.
I guess this is such a touchy subject for me since everyone in my family - except my father who has stated proudly that he is looking forward to death - is so crippled with fear of the inevitable that they break down when anyone, even 98 year old Aunt Edna, passes on. And then they act like I'm inhuman because it doesn't bother me. I have friends who, every year on the anniversary of the death of a loved one, make a huge spectacle of weeping and getting drunk for a week straight, even though it's been five years since the incident. Yes, I understand everybody grieves in their own personal way, and maybe I'm being an asshole. :(
Regardless of that assholery, I'm extremely thankful for these articles. Thanks, Booboo!
