I just finished this book early this morning. I have to say those first few chapters were fabulous. I loved Karou, loved her city, loved the art, and even the weird animal creatures. The Romeo Juliet story line fell flat for me. The story was predictable at that point and I hate that. However, this book series has promise. I will definitely keep reading, but its not a "must own now or die" book, if you know what I mean ;p

I LOVE Hayao Miyazaki to death! He's almost like Walt Disney. His values are the same and his work is exceptional. If you liked Spirited Away for its sweetness, Princess Monoke is a little bloody (but it's just as good I swear). Try Castle in the Sky next. Then move to Princess Monoke. Ponyo (the newest one) was actually done by Hayao Miyazaki's son (at least, that's the rumor) and so I think isn't at the same level as all of the earlier work.

As one of those who liked this book, I have to say that appreciate your review. Why? Because you were honest as to why you didn't like it. Your rant wasn't really a rant at all. I know how hard that can be. LOL.

I *heart* you. Thank you so much for the suggestions! I actually picked up Jellicoe Road at the library the other day and fully plan on reading it. I will mark all the others on goodreads. Read the Book Thief. I stole the copy from my BF, and she is never getting it back. That was amazing. Pure and simple.

This was a great post! If I had your memory (which I don't) I totally would have done the same thing. I remember Meg Cabot (Princess Diaries!), Tamora Pierce, and Cate Tiernan (Sweep).

Whoa. Those quotes are very powerful. I think I would enjoy this book a lot, because here recently I didn't read "heavy issue" books because of the triggering effect. But now I know that some of the best books out there, with the most memorable characters, are those books. I better get off my lazy, scared butt and read the damn things. I hope I enjoy it. I will put it on my TBR pile but maybe I should read Twenty Boy Summer first?

oh! I love Jennifer Echols. Going Too Far was so great! I want to read her latest sooo badly. This looks like a great summer read and your review was spot on. I'll have to pick up a copy. I just finished an intense book. I could use a good laugh :)
