If it's only OCs and takes place in an original land, without making any references to Hasbro's IP, then they don't need Hasbro's permission, and Hasbro can't C&D them.

Hasbro owns the rights to the characters, stories, etc in MLP. They don't own the right to animated ponies in general. So if everything's 100% original, then there's nothing Hasbro owns the rights to in the animation.

It looks like it's using a new map of Equestria as well. Several locations (most notably Ponyville) have changed locations relative to where they were on the old map:

That sounds like it'd be a great ending.

I've kinda hoped for some kinda "gotcha" ending that just brings some unexpected closure to one of the storylines - like why Luna became NMM, or why Discord was chaotic, etc. Just something to catch people off guard and make them go "ohhh...."
