And as for ditch-digging, my grandparents probably didn't much like working as hard as they did back in the 30s but they did it and they saved their money and they made something of their lives and they handed something better to their children with the first college educations in our family. But they also handed their children and their grandchildren a work ethic. If you don't have the character to work hard for a better standard of living, no amount of government help is going to give you that character. People appreciate more the things that they work hard for and provide for themselves. I don't want to work hard to provide for people who won't work for themselves...

The problem with the stimulus package is that it was not a stimulus. If you want to stimulate the economy, the money should go to the people who keep the economy running - not to government programs. If stimulus money had been given to the people who actually spend money in our economy, maybe the hotel industry wouldn't be hurting because some of us would be able to afford vacations and the college student wouldn't have to be concerned about having to dig a ditch.
