My interest in politics began with the last election. I give President Obama credit for that (although I'm sure he wouldn't agree with my conclusion). I voted for John McCain, and I am sorry I did so. I have voted for Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Libertarians--none of which have lived up to MY expectations or THEIR promises. I feel like a little kid trying to get the attention of her parent, by constantly tugging on their clothing. I write and I call the politicians who represent ME, but to no avail. I invited one of my Senators to meet with one of his "regular American constituents" to discuss his view, but to no avail. Again, I am respectful when I do so.
I am tired of the "do as I say, and not as I do" mentality of our ELECTED officials. Stop telling me to be fiscally responsible, and not do the same. Stop telling me that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and then make fun of me when it isn't the same as yours (like when MY President made his derogatory comments at one of his "town hall" love fests about AMERICANS like ME who attend Tea Party rallies). Stop blaming others for the actions of one (e.g., the man who killed Dr. Tiller, or the man who killed the security guard at the Holocaust Museum)--those men made THEIR OWN horrible choices, with THEIR OWN FREE WILL--nobody MADE them do anything! Don't tell me that George Bush's trickle down economics didn't work--the recent economic policies aren't "trickle down" they're more like Niagara Falls, and they're breaking the back of our economy for the love of power and control. Stop telling me that you are open to others' ideas--you are SO OBVIOUSLY NOT! WE ARE BROKE--STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE! Walk the walk that you are asking us to take! ALL OF YOU! Protect my country, protect its citizens, protect the laws, protect the ORIGINAL constitution--that should keep you plenty busy. I do not NEED or WANT you telling me how to do the rest.
I am also, busy, busy, busy, and tired, tired, tired. I have a family that needs me, I have friends who rely on me, and my daughter is getting married this year. But I WANT to make a difference. I WANT to represent Common Sense. I WANT to serve my country and PRESERVE the constitution (again, the original one), but I don't know where to start. I pray every day for God to use me for what is good, what is right, what makes SENSE, and to make a difference. I ask that He place me in situations that will allow me to do those things. I'm quite sure that is why I feel so compelled to reply to your letter, Janet. I'M RIGHT HERE. I'm ready and want to take the next step. I want to make a difference. I need help to do so. I need people I trust to show me the way. I am ignorant when it comes to the "political game", but believe in this case ignorance is bliss. Do not confuse that with being ignorant, I AM NOT! I know right from wrong, I take responsibility for my actions; I make amends to those I have hurt. If that's someone you're looking for to represent you, I'm RIGHT HERE!

Dear Janet-
My name is Nancy Legree. I'm a 47 year old resident of Michigan, wife of 26 years, mother of two adult children, and proud American citizen.
My loyalties are to God, my family, friends, and country (in that order). I believe in the original constitution; not the one that is currently being re-written. I follow the law--the ones that God wrote and the ones that have been made by this country (in that order).
I have NO political background; however, I have worked with children for 17+ years--first with abused, neglected, and delinquent adolescents; then with private school children (that's right, children whose parents actually CHOSE to send their children to a private school), ages 3 years - 8th grade. My point is that the experience I have with children (and perhaps more important, their parents) would be a great asset dealing with our "leaders."
My parents worked hard and instilled many values in me; the most important being "take responsibility for your actions." My husband and I have passed those values on to our children. We also had very high expectations of them. Have they always lived up to them? Absolutely not! Did we "bail them out" when they didn't? No. Did we allow them to "fail?" You bet ya. Was it easy to watch? Not one bit. Has it made them better human beings? I believe so.
I am NOT politically correct; however, I am VERY respectful of others and their opinions. I may not agree with you, and I will tell you so, but I will not tell you with contempt and hatred. You are not for me to judge, but you are a fellow human being, I always remember that. I will give you the same respect (or lack thereof) that you give me. It's the "golden rule" thing.
I am NOT an activist; however, if I see an injustice, I will stand up. For example, after the 9/11 attacks, a national weight loss program aired a commercial comparing a teacher's weight problem to the attacks. What would she do if such a thing happened in her classroom, and because of her weight, she wouldn't be able to protect the children? I was infuriated! I called the company and spoke with their advertising department. I told them that while I am a HUGE believer in capitalism, it should not be on the back of such a horrific time in our country's history. I was civil, I was respectful, and I LISTENED to their explanation. I NEVER saw that commercial again. I'm sure my phone call wasn't the reason, but I stood up for what I felt was an extremely poor and hurtful decision!

Reinstate prayer in schools
Reinstate Christian songs, plays, beliefs in schools
Return to Christmas and Easter break (that's what they are)
Nativity on all government property
Benjamin Franklin said: "The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of the truth--that God governs in the affairs of Men. And, without His aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel."
The further away from God we become as a nation, the less we will be blessed by Him!
