I have a strange recurring dream where my cat has an evil twin! Usually I'm playing with a cat that I think is my cat, and then my actual cat walks into the room and I realize that the cat I was playing with is some kind of demon that has assumed her form. As soon as I figure it out, I wake up in total terror, even though nothing that is objectively that scary has happened. I'm glad that I'm not the only person who has frightening cat dreams!

Whoa! I have both of these same dreams!!! The only difference is that, when I have the animal dream, they're not snarling or acting aggressive, they just get closer and closer and it carries a terrible sense of dread. I also have a similar one where I'm on a hike and I see a large animal (usually a big white bear, but sometimes it's just a bison which isn't even a carnivore) on a mountain across an overlook. It's far away, but when I see it I feel this impending doom. It's strange because I actually grew up somewhere with a lot of wildlife around and I've seen bears and coyotes and it's never bothered me in real life.

Hi Aaminah! Thank you for such a thoughtful and thought-provoking piece! I'm a new doula and a white woman, and the issues that you touched are things that I've been thinking a lot about, but haven't been able to elegantly articulate. I'm wondering if you have suggestions as to how to introduce my clients to wonderful things like baby wearing and belly binding in a respectful way that's not appropriative and gives credit without exoticizing. Obviously, it's not your job to make sure that I'm not acting like an asshole, but if you happen to have any ideas or recommended resources, I would really appreciate it!
