lol, I see all the negative points, but not one good response to my post. The truth hurts, doesn't it Obama Sheeple.
I'm an independent and yeah, I agree 3 years is a short time frame to judge an economy turnaround, but it only takes 3 years to run a country into the ground. Its not just the economy, its everything else. 3 years ago I bought into the "change" Obama preached and sure enough we are getting change. Him and his cronies are puffing up the Government more than ever over the American people. The change we are heading in is leading to an ever more socialist country. Man, I swear sometimes people in WA state are drinking too much Starbucks and clouding their ability to think about the big picture. I can't think of one thing Obama has done to improve the lives of people in WA state, not one damn thing.
What a piss poor argument?! So basically, since they are some greedy, corrupt CEO's and corporations, we should abandon democracy and give our President greater control than ever in history? Basically take the system that is supposed to empower the citizens and let the Government control our lives?
The list is too long to explain how many different times Obama has overstepped his authority. Prime example is right in your face with Obamacare. Obama also unconstitutionally overstepped his executive authority with the appointment of Richard Cordray as the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and three new members to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
These appointments undermine the confirmation process and Congress’s critical responsibility to check the power of the executive branch. Reversing years of precedent, the President decided to push his own agenda despite the Senate’s rejection of Cordray’s nomination only a few weeks earlier. The Constitution grants a president the right to make recess appointments. This much is unquestioned and clearly set forth in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, which states the President can “fill up all vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate.”
But the power to execute this right nevertheless hinges on an essential condition: The Senate must be in recess. In this case, the Senate was in session. It stands to reason that if Obama’s judgment – not Congress’ - dictates when the Senate is in “recess,” then what would stop him from making an appointment whenever he chooses? Michael McConnell, a former federal judge and director of the Constitutional Law Center at Stanford Law School, recently suggested in the Wall Street Journal that the President “could, for example, make an appointment overnight, or during a lunch break.”
The Constitution does not change based on which party occupies the White House. The same rules should apply no matter who holds office. Preserving the sanctity of the decisions of the Senate and the role it serves is one way we support and defend our founding document and the ideals of those who created it.
This country was not built upon – nor did it rise to greatness because of – a single branch of government. Our democracy sits on three separate pillars, and the decisions of the legislative branch are not merely a hurdle for the President to run around.
Rick, I would have voted for you anyday over our current Dictator-In-Chief.
Actually, I attended public school for my k-12, went to a liberal arts college, and now am working on my Master's. I had a very positive experience for the most part and had some fantastic teachers. I'm not sure how old you are, but we have to admit that the public school system is not the same as when we grew up. Now, I'm not naive to think that homeschooling is the answer for everyone; I know it just doesn't work for everyone.I actually apologize to you if you and your spouse are trying your best on two incomes and barely getting by; I've been there before when I was out of work about 5 years ago. While my original statement on this thread was a bit facetious and exagerrated, what I was trying to get across is that our school system and parenting is failing our kids. A good 30-40% of the middle class is so concerned with having that extra income and "toys", vacations, it comes at the expense of spending time with our children. If parents were putting in the time at home, we would not have incidents like the one in this article. As far as the school system being "evil"; no I don't believe that. I have friends who are great teachers and doing the best they can. However, the higher powers in Washington DC have screwed our school systems completely up. One thing I agree with the Republicans in the debate last night is that the Federal government has to get out mingling with our schools. The money and choices should be in the state's and the local districts hands. The public school system is being ruined by the Dept. of Educ and other unions that don't care what's best for our children. I think if we addressed the parenting issue and the "system" issue I described above, we wouldn't see as many of the issues as we see like in this article.
Oh no, not the social argument again. Really? If getting bullied, peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, and having guns at school is your definition of socialization, then I think I'll be fine having my kids "deprived" of those skills.
Where there's a will, there's a way...
As soon as we stop putting importance on having a three-car garage with expanded cable and our golf Saturday mornings. Its all about priorities. Now I completely understand with single-mothers who don't have many options, but many dual-income families are just living to accomodate their lifestyles. All comes down to priorities; do you really think other people have more energy and love than a child's own parents?
Time to start homeschooling our children!
