Oh, how did I ever forget about my heterosexual mancrush on Milton Friedman?

I'm ok with them being salaried if what they would generally earn per hour in the aggregate can be prorated across the year. The benefit of a three month vacation should certainly factor in. I would, however, also factor in the fact that many teachers do their lesson plans and grade papers at home, off the clock.

I couldn't echo your sentiments on continuing ed more. I spend 12 hours a year on MANDATORY continuing ed - that I pay for! Frankly, I don't think my job is as important as the job of the teacher. Why they're immune, I do not know. Oh wait, yes, I do. the union.

I don't think anybody in the world argues that the vital job that teachers provide should command hearty financial remuneration. I just think people are tired of the lackadaisical and hands-off teachers that became teachers because they weren't sure what else to do with themselves. Great teachers are obvious. Poor ones the same.

I understand the need for collective bargaining in large school districts but its the union's "let's protect the crappy ones too" mantra that loses me. If you really wanted to keep your union strong, you'd cut out the weak members. Then again, what the hell do I know about unions, I vote conservative.

I'm pretty sure I found her entertaining in "Aurthur," though. Then again, I'm a fan of any movie that features happy-go-lucky drunks.

I miss Dudley Moore.

Christianity just doesn't have that "death to those that insult us" style down pat.

Religion will always give people room for comedic interpretation. Nothing should be off limits. People can account for their own taste in comedy by changing the channel. Realistically, there has been some downright hilarious stuff influenced by religion. I refer you to Mel Brooks' "The History of the World, Part I" and the scene depicting the last supper.

Judas: No, No! Leave us alone!
Comicus: All right, all right! Jesus!
Jesus: Yes?
Comicus: What?
Jesus: What?
Comicus: What?
Jesus: Yes?
Comicus: Jesus!
Jesus: Yes?
Comicus: What?
Jesus: What?
Comicus: You said what.
Jesus: Yes?
Comicus: Nothing.

Satirize Christianity all you want. Generally, Christians generally aren't the ones with the thin skin. What irks me is the fact that this comes after capitulating to muslim antipathy. Comedy Central has to cater to the market and the market is a giant wuss when it comes to hurt feelings. I'd like to see Comedy Central sack up and show South Park's episode 201 without the boxes and beeps, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
