This post really made my blood boil and I am so very glad to see it roundly denounced. Thank you everyone.

Racism stinks.

Really? I thought every poll shows healthy positives? Any poll?

Do facts matter?

I would think her resignation draws her credibility on a national stage down to about zero. Nobody likes a quitter. She has her reasons - and her excuses, but actions speak louder than words, I'm afraid. Her circle of influence has shrunk.

Face it - if he WAS going there you all would just carp about THAT as proof of some other nefarious plot.

Have anything interesting to say today?

Happy 4th.

I think this quote makes all our points!

Facts are stubborn things!

Sorry for the delay - I had to go pick up some freinds from the airport...

You said: "to express this kind of goal in all of the countries I have lived in, with the exception of the US, is considered treasonous" This is precisely the freedom of America. This is what defines us.

Then you express frustration in a comparrison between the KKK and La Raza. You point out: "Racism is Racism no matter what race it comes from." But I would say again that real racism (the kind that stops rights and keeps people down) is Prejudice Plus Power.

The KKK have the dominant white hegemony on their side. The Latinos of La Raza have no such power. While these situations are simmilar - they are not the same.

In my opinion...

I lived in San Francisco for 24 years before moving to Rio de Janeiro 2 years ago, where I live now. I have worked with people involved in La Raza. Mostly we were working for tenant's rights, worker's rights and poor people's rights.

I certainly do NOT think that if you belonged to such an organization you would be racist. If, on the other hand your mission statement was to work for the supremacy of the German race -- I would have to look much closer...

To have pride is different than to dispise others. The organization's name builds pride, calls out to others to join, and reminds of the focus of their mission: to build opportunity for Latino Americans.

We are a multicultural society -- that is not to say all colors are to mix into a grey mass. Each culture is vibrant and to be celebrated.

Frustrated: limits on post size make it hard to engage in an in-depth way. I'll try again...

Disagreement does not equal racism. I think racism = prejudice plus power.

So when we white folks speak out in a way that seems anti-(choose your minority community) it is often seen as racism. But when those same minority communities speak out against the disadvantages they feel in the face of the dominant (read: white) culture -- white folks may cry racism - but in reality the minority community has little power to enforce their position. It may be PREJUDICE - but it is not racism.

It still stings. White folks don't like to be called out on our prejudices or be challenged on our strong feelings. -- But don't let people like Rush or Mr. Beck rile you up too much. Thier job is to create heat -- not light.

Be careful. Do not only view the anti-Mexican propaganda videos like the one you have linked to.

I know the people on this site want to take a fair look at the issues.

Also take the time to review the La Raza website. <a href="http://www.nclr.org/" target="_blank">http://www.nclr.org/

La Raza has a long history of social justice work in our country - often in solidarity with other American citizens yearning for equal rights.

La Raza is not Anti- American. Do your research. It is possible to be FOR your own ethinic community's concerns while ALSO being PRO-American. (The Irish do it, the Polish do it, the Italian do it, etc.)

In our country this is called Multi-Culturalism. And it is a good thing.

We are a nation of many, many ethnicities.

For some - I know you will have your anti-immigrant feelings. But keep a clear eye (and heart) when looking at Judge Sotomeyor. Don't buy the hype and lies. Decide for yourself. (In fact - she is quite conservative.)

Are you suggesting that the folks at Google are in on the conspiracy? Oh dear...

The measure of news references on the search you did was for those areticles that appeared on the net -- not for how long your favorite television news broadcast (and others) ran the stories. Apples and oragnes.

Relax.
