Mr Doakes, that was an amazing letter to President Obama! I would love to see ANY news organization print that for the world to see! I, as a 9-year veteran of the US Air Force (rank of Captain), could not agree more with your assessment. You have captured the essence of why our commander-in-chief (no caps on purpose) is NOT fit to serve in that capacity. The oath you are referring to is a solemn one; my father took it before me and was present in the conflict we are commemorating today. I took it proudly and willingly, and lost several good friends to conflict after doing so. Thank you so much for understanding the weight of commitment our service men and women make each and every day! That, sir, is why we do what we do! God Bless America!

NutsnBolts - get a clue. You are free today because of these brave souls! Like Ron White said -- You can't fix stupid! Take this as a reason to buy a history book, look online, or just take the time to talk to your grandfather about this day. The freedom of America and Europe is in thanks to the sacrifices made by my father - and many, many others - on that fateful day. I'm sure you think it's fun to make comments like this, but what would your grandfather think?

Thank you Eurovisitor! My dad spent 4 years in support of the liberation of Europe. He was a glider mechanic in support of the 82nd and 101st Airborne, and made his way all the way from England to Germany. It is very nice to know there are still Germans who are appreciative of his (and others) sacrifices for your freedom! I, too, am saddened and disgusted how the attitudes have changed abroad and at home. Thank you for your kind words for our heroes!
