That's exactly it - isn't it? Sitting and itching and aching.

Sitting with yourself as you are.

Itching to be anywhere else. Or maybe just itching to scratch?

Aching for the life you thought you always wanted - or the one you never had.

Thank you Karen for this: "We cover the ground where we stand."

I went to a dharma talk at the Boulder Shambhala Center one night where the speaker explained how "when we work, we work - and when we play, we play". Only I think the example he used was the senses. How while seeing - there is only seeing, and while hearing - there is only hearing. Which in a way made sense to me, but in another way - had me trying to compartmentalize my life in new ways. "Oops - I'm smelling and seeing at the same time...that's wrong".

But - to "cover the ground where we stand" isn't about division or categorization - it encompasses the whole of the moment. So that living mindfully becomes about ease and acceptance of what is - right here and now. I only have to attend to the things that present themselves to me where I stand now. I can let go - or save for another time the worries of the past or anxieties for the future.

Reminds me of the teachings of Dale Carnegie who cautioned to live in day-tight compartments. There's a man who's teachings were part Zen without him even knowing it.

Great point Karen. Ordinary is part of what makes life brilliant and meaningful. But so often we're striving for extraordinary that we completely miss what's right in front of us. If we do this often enough and long enough - we miss out on our real lives.

Michael - I love what you've just said about how "you have to be a somebody before you can be a nobody". I think there is an entire new discussion in that!

I can't wait to see me at Day 21 either ;) Starting tomorrow I add in Exercise. I'm just gonna start out walking until Monday. Then I'm starting the Couch-to-5K program plus Bikram twice a week.

I hear ya on the headache. Giving up sugar is MUCHO HARD. But I think maybe it's worth it. We shall see.
