"Given our fundamentally flawed and society-dividing model of democracy, a few slip-ups and a slight re-alignment of political and social combinations is all it takes to upset all calculations and projections and produce unexpected results that, as we saw in the recent Maharashtra elections, can hide unacceptable failures. No wonder independent India has produced so few great leaders of the caliber and integrity that the freedom struggle threw up."
I am 200% agree with, its a unfortunate that India do have a tons thousands of politicians but not a single to lead this beautiful country. If we look up the results of our recent elections, one thing is very clear, In India national interest is being compromised for the sake of petty politics and number game. Our elite or so called urban educated population never have time to think realistically and take some responsibility or show some flexibility in their opinion at least for the sake of the nation’s interest. young generation is getting too much materialistic, money and big houses that all matters to them. what left? Rural real population... but they so much fed up of corruption and exploitation that they are not bothered about long term view, who ever give them money, show them race card or class card...and last but not least money they will vote for him or her....

When you said "What is more important is that as a nation we must have the courage to accept and face history honestly, warts included."
Do you really think these political dinosaurs will ever let us to know the right version of our history? Our both the national parties pillars are standing on lies, and these lies can bring them in power or might throw them out of power.
We as nation are so ignorant about facts and so scared to know reality, so there is no need to blame these stupid politicians.
BJP has done the biggest mistake by expelling him, and again given congress a upper hand to start another "Jinnah" ghost game against them.

Main pillar of our democracy be it congress or BJP quickly becoming ideologically irrelevant in Indian political arena. Their own self-destructive policies and negative thinking is preventing them to become major force in Indian politics.
Because of this regional parties are getting upper hand and using national parties for their own cause nothing to do with development of their own community or state.
Today our Indian leaders are just happy to exploit the ignorance of our public and dividing the country’s political map on regional and community based politics. Today India has everything she needs from talent s to infrastructure; from better education system to more job opportunity except a leader and political and public will to transforms this great country into super power.

Well its really good to see that even today diplomacy are working and can work in future also if any countries really wants diplomacy to works out for them. What Mr.Clinton did is outstanding and I also remember even in India when Mr.N.Rao was PM he did asked Mr.Vajpayee Ji to represent India in UN so that India can can kill the bill on the Issue of Kashmir and that time Mr.Vajpayee Ji did tremendous job for us in UN. All Past story nothing in present...
Today I don't think we have any single leader who can lead the masses. Its a bad luck of India that we have too many politicians but not a single leader, all leaders can be politicians but all politicians cant be a leader. its a fact ...
To rise above you need a leader a very basic ingredient of nation to stand tall even in worse time but at least I cant find even a single leader here in India...
