Most of the founding father's were deists, not Christians. When they talk about "Creator" and "God", it is not the God of Jesus. "Year of our Lord" that is used in the constitution was just a common dating convension. It no more made the United States "Christian" than using the word "January" made us pagan nation because our month names rference Roman pagan gods (Janus). As early 1797, the Treaty of Tripoli said point blank that America is not a Christian Nation.

Certainly, individuals employed in Government have one their own decided to use Chrisitan prayers and rituals. That doesn't make this a christian nation. There have always been non-Christians in America, and the United States of America has never had an official releigion. As a matter of fact, according to the first amendment, it is unconstitutional to establish an official religion or require religious tests for political office.

If you want to find the knuckle-dragging racists, go to a Sarah Palin rally. She seems to attact racists like flies are attracted to poo-poo.

if you are not racist, then why are you shoot birds at people who are a different color than you. If you don't like somebody's POV, then you don't like their POV. There is no reason to be rude about it.

People voted for Obama because he was black AND qualified. For the year prior to the Iowa election, Hillary Clinton was leading Barack Obama by 20% in most polls. She was also leading among black voters by a high percentage. Black people did not favor Obama just because he has dark skin over Hillary who had a proven track record with African-Americans.

However, when Obama won Iowa, an overwhelmingly white state, black people took another look at Obama and thought "This guy is smart, and he may be able to actually win". In South Carolina the first primary with a significant black vote, Obama got 70% of the black vote, and his percentages of the black vote kept going up after that in the primaries.

In the general election Obama got just about all the African-American vote, but the Democratic candidata almost always gets just about all the African-American vote in the general election even when that candidate is white.

MLK was very much for social justice for the poor. He would be very pleased with Obama's election.

Why would anyone care whether Obama's dark skin comes from his African roots or Arab roots? It is truly the most irrelevant factoid ever. Obama has said that the day after his ingruation that race became a non-issue in his presidency. I think that is about right.

The Lily Ledbetter Act. Lily Ledbetter was a supervisor in a Goodyear tire plant. When she worked there for 20 years. She always got excellent evaluations. She got raises there were supposed to be based on those evaluations. After she retired, Lily got a hold of a memo that mave a listing of various evaluations supervisors got and the raises that went with them. Even though Lily had higher evaluations, she received lower raises than the male supervisors. Lily sued because she wasn't getting equal pay for equal work.

The Supreme Court threw out the suit because Lily didn't sue at the time the discrimination was happening. Obama signed a law changing the rules so that the clock on the statue of limitations doesn't start until the person suing finds out that alledged discrimination is going on.

The Ledbetter Act doesn't guarentee anybody will win their case in court. It just makes sure that people still have standing even if information was covered up for years. It is a good law for liberals, modrates and conservatives.

I guess "some" may think Obama is Christ-like, but not very many. Remember Obama just barely won the Democratic primary. He is not the first choice as a presidential candidate for a lot of Democrats, never mind a messiah figure.

People get worked up at Obama rallies, because he can give a good speech (so can Sarah Palin). However, one people get home, they calm down. I hang out in liberal circles. Nobody genuflects when they walk by a picture of Obama. Nobody prays to Obama.

Not to worry. After the ice caps melt, the deficit spending won't matter. Seriously, I am way more concerned with global warming than deficit spending, and I am plenty worried about the high deficit that Obama is running up.

I disagree with you international relations. I thought releasing the tourture memos was a boneheaded move. However, I agree with his other moves. We tell our kids to be polite and gracious, admit to mistakes and work well with others. The same applies to countries.

Whoo-Hooo!! Happy days are here again!

There are some center-right Democratic senators such as Lincoln of Arkansas, and Bayh of Indiana, and Nelson of Nebraska, so Obama will not get everything he wants. However, this should stop the Republicans from threatening to filabuster over every little thing.
