Well, you know, we've been trying to get the message across through normal channels. How has it been received? The TARP bill is a prime example. We've elected these people in, and they're following their own agenda! Why would normal channels have any affect? I'm not saying we resort to the level of protesting that is going on in Iran, but the American people need to stand up and make themselves heard. One way is to 'clean house' in November's election. It might be enough of a wake-up call to those not yet up for re-election that they might start LISTENING to us. I'm also afraid too much damage may be done by then. Your 'shortly' has been extremely short so far. Can you imagine what another 5 months will do? And we're looking at 3 1/2 years of this administration and his CZARS!
Well, as Glenn was reading this letter by Mrs. Contreras tonight, I kept thinking, I agree, I've been saying alot of this all along. I'd stepped away from the TV and wasn't aware at first that there was a letter 'petition' on Glenn's site, and wanted to write my own letter in the same vein as Contreras, but the hubby informed me of the petition. When it becomes available again, I will sign it, but also plan on printing the letter and indicating my agreement and sending on to our Nation's capital. I'm also forwarding the web address and a copy of the letter to all my email friends. This needs to get out to those that may not watch or have access to Glenn's show!
The flat tax would be well and good if all people were honest and reported all their income. I can't say it would be bad, but maybe not the best way to apply tax to all individuals. The man at the grocery store that pulled out a wad of Franklins to purchase liquor and cigs, loaded down with more bling than my credit card credit limit (and it's pretty hefty) could handle, driving that Navigator, and using a Bridge card (in Michigan, same as food stamps) to purchase his groceries is obviously not going to be affected by a flat tax. He would, however, have paid a fair share of tax, regardless of his income sources, if we had a federal sales tax. Immigrants would be paying taxes. I think an exemption to 'visitors' could be made, where they could apply to be re-imbursed for a certain amount, based on the length of their visit. We'd be talking no other exemptions here.
You betcha! Citizen, immigrant (legal or not), tax filer, tax cheat, people working under the table, individuals gaining funds by other (illegal) means.... Yep, it'd keep it fair, wouldn't it? You want to buy something? Plan on paying the tax too, hon. Bling? Tax paid. Hummer - tax paid! Diapers for the bambinos? Tax paid. Big screen TV and jammin' entertainment center - TAX PAID! More jeans for my daughter?? Tax paid. It would all, literally, come out fair in the wash.
And what, exactly, does she recall from her tenure there?? I mean, accurately?
Yeah, mirroring my thoughts, and you know, Palin has learned what she needed to do her job. I'm sure it would have been the same had she gotten the VP. Pelosi, however, has been at this game for 24 years and still doesn't get it. She can be daft and still Madame Speaker. Maybe we need to put her and Biden in the same locked room and see which one baffles the other to death??
Disjointed and disassociated! You're right. They certainly can't relate to us common working class Americans. That's one of the reasons Palin was so popular with working class conservatives and not with the American royalty.
Ya know, we make a flat tax (ie: sales tax) and it will hit the immigrants while they're in residence. However, I still think they need to be naturalized in order to vote. And taxpayers, every one of them. Start a new campaign to get them voting conservative. Excellent idea you have there Heron.
Well said! I definitely like your point re: our contributions globally. And to think the current administration wants to try and 'force' our youth to volunteer with their special interest programs. Our country has an established history of national and global outreach. And this is without being coerced. How can this admin expect to run the machine & make it better without disenfranchising those that graciously volunteer now??
I'd have to agree he wouldn't have pushed thru trillions of dollars of debt in record time. I've come to believe that you're generally voting for the lesser of the evils. I felt McCain would have been best for the country with what we had available to vote on in the presidential election. We're not going to agree with a candidate on all points, just hope for most. For the cap and trade, again, this current administration is running at sprint pace and I don't see McCain leading the charge like that. I suspect he'd have weighed the options more heavily before pushing anything through. The first bailout? He's not the only presidential candidate that voted for it. Amazing how he's the one that got all the (negative) press. As for his demeanor during the campaign, he definitely should have shown his harder edge. He gave the impression he could be trod all over and he'd just smile the whole time. I can't tell you how many time during the debates I was yelling at the television in the hopes he'd raise his voice, just a little.
