I'm being a hypocrite for having an open mind and listening to all sides of a discussion? Do you really think that you're being a good Christian by demonizing everything about our President and looking at all Muslims as being blood thirsty Christian hating fanatics without even making an attempt to learn anything about them? Sheeesh!!!
Okay, first off, it was directed toward everyone here. I did not see a single even vaguely complimentary reaction to the speech. It is all hate. Did you object when George Bush made a speech in Egypt? The "colonial" was out of line simply because we have had NO colonial aspirations in the middle east. Regarding the statements about governments, they were simply saying that no system of government should be forced on another people. It should be the peoples choice, and I agree wholeheartedly. He said at the outset that this speech in itsself wouldn't change anything, but it is a start. Someone has to make the first move. Its going to take action on our part, their part, and the Israelis part. If you feel you're in the dark, maybe its because you've turned off the light of reason.
I am no fan of Barrack Obama. I think his economic policies are misguided and could possibly lead to financial disaster. It makes me furious and crazy to think that my grandchildren, when I have some, will be born owing their government close to $50,000 right now. On that subject I believe that much of what he has done is unconstitutional. Some of it is very possibly illegal. But someone is going to have to challenge him on it and so far all I’m seeing here is hate speech. The biggest thing wrong with our country today is the closed mindedness and hate that you people are exhibiting. The left is guilty of it too. And I won’t be part of it anymore. Open your minds, people. Because the way you are right now, not a single one of you could make a legitimate claim to being a Christian. I will leave you with that and take my efforts to organizations that are offering constructive solutions. Goodbye.
Our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and morals. Our Constitution was influenced primarily by British Common Law, but also by the Magna Carta, and the Code of Hammurabi (if you don’t know who Hammurabi was, your education is severely lacking). But that doesn’t mean we exclude the influence of these other cultures and religions. And no, that is not an endorsement of Sharia law. Anything but. Regardless of what the talking heads say and what you people believe, the President made a lot of sense this morning and did nothing to “sell out” our own country or any of our allies. I read it as a sincere attempt to make a new start with Islam and our great nation. (continued)
He may have misspoken about the number of Muslims in the U.S. If George Bush had made the same error, it would just be an error or misinformation. Since it came from President Obama, it is now a lie of the most heinous kind. The President has never said that we are a Muslim nation. His original statement was that we didn’t consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. Today, he only stated the Muslim faith is part of the U.S. Guess what…so is the Jewish faith, and the Hindu faith, and the Buddhist faith, and the Shinto faith, and the Taoists, and every other faith or religion that has a citizen of the United States as a member. (continued)
You claim he sold out Israel by demanding the end to establishing new settlements. You seem to have missed the part where he also said that Hamas must end their violence against said settlements. Or that he said the bond between the U.S. and Israel is unbreakable. Some of you have taken offense to the fact that he sited passages from the Koran. Guess what…he also sited the Bible and the Torah. He essentially chastised Islam for the treatment of women. (continued)
The conclusion I have reached is that you people either 1) did not listen to the speech at all and are only parroting what the far right talking heads are saying, 2) you listened to the speech and heard only what you wanted to hear, or 3) you listened to it and then cherry picked the speech to take things out of context to prove your misconceptions. I have never been associated with such a group of closed minded zealots. The majority of you are still claiming that President Obama is a Muslim. If this was true, why would he tell his audience this morning that he is Christian? You folks seem to have missed that. It was in the first five minutes or so of his speech. (continued)
I can’t believe what I’m reading here. And by the time you finish reading this, if you read it to the end, my reputation score will probably be further in the negative range than Elliott’s. I joined the 912 Project early on believing that I would be conversing and planning with at least somewhat thoughtful and intelligent people looking for realistic ways to take back our government. Your reaction to the Presidents address in Cairo as expressed especially in this blog shows how wrong I was. I expected some negative reaction, even before I listened to the speech, but what has been posted here is just disgusting. (continued)
I used to be adamantly against giving the three dollars to the election fund on my tax return. I didn't want any of my money going to a candidate I did not support. But now, in light of the past presidential election and the Presidents recent trip to Las Vegas and Los Angeles, at our expense, to campaign and fund raise for Harry Reid, I have changed my mind. It is time for SERIOUS campaign reform beyond McCain-Feingold.
This is what I would recommend. 1)Candidates for national office (i.e. President, Vice-President) will receive ALL campaign funding from the federal election fund. No funds from private individuals, corporations, PACs, Unions, or anyone else would be allowed. Only funding from the federal election fund. All candidates would receive the exact same amount of money to spend as they see fit as long as the expenditures are directly related to the campaign. Some may argue that this solution would restrict their freedom of speech (I've heard that argument before) but it is not true. Nothing stops anyone from standing on a street corner or on a "soap box" in a park or behind a podium at a gathering and extolling the virtues of their chosen candidate. Endorsements would still be legal, just not monetary contributions. 2)In the case of state elections for the U.S. Senate, no contributions could be accepted from outside the state where the candidate is seeking election. Individual contributions would be limited to $500 and corporate contributions limited to $1000. Corporate limits would apply to all corporations, PACs, unions, etc. Campaigning for a candidate by the President or Vice President, or any elected official from outside the state where the candidate is seeking election would be prohibited. 3) In the case of state elections for the U.S. House of Representatives, all restrictions mentioned above for Senate races would apply except that contributions from outside the district where the candidate is seeking election would be prohibited. Again, any campaigning by any elected official from outside the the district where the candidate is seeking election would be prohibited. This still leaves campaigning by mayors, councilpersons, county officials and the like open. 4) All states should pass legislation requiring a special election to fill vacant seats in the U.S. Congress instead of allowing an often times partisan Governor to appoint someone. All general election rules and requirements would apply.
It is time to get the likes of George Soros out of American politics. We need to put an end to candidates or contributors having the ability to literally buy an election.
