Excellent point Mr. Sides. It is important that we not forget this opportunity to express our opinions through our voting rights. As you point out, this election is especially critical as it pertains to a new additional tax. Thanks for this important reminder.
As the ELCA embarks on this monumental journey perhaps it is time for change among the membership. While it is sad to see the 'body of Christ' split by differing opinions this may well be an opportunity for renewed growth and a spiritual awakening for those that will continue on. The LCMC will no doubt face challenges as they seek to break away but certainly we can anticipate that God will continue to offer His guidance to their membership. The ELCA strong in spirit, membership and faith will continue to prosper as well and carry on the mission at hand. While the ELCA has taken a bold and perhaps unpopular stance, this has been true throughout the history of Christianity. How many times have Christians been persecuted for taking the unpopular stance. Matthew 3:12: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. I'm thankful that the ELCA has acted out of love for all mankind and took the unpopular stance.
continued: And he closed with the following: "I invite you into important, thoughtful, prayerful conversation about what all of this means for our life in mission together. What is absolutely important for me is that we have this conversation together. We meet one another finally — not in our agreements or our disagreements — but at the foot of the cross, where God is faithful, where Christ is present with us, and where, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we are one in Christ." Truer words were never spoken.
In a message to rostered leaders, Bishop Mark Hanson started out with the following scripture: Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:14-15 He went on to say: "I am grateful for the manner in which this church has engaged in this conversation. The way this assembly has discussed these questions is a continuation of the way this church has deliberated: with deep and heartfelt respect for each other, engaging with Scripture, listening to the faith stories and experiences of one another, and through worship and prayer seeking the discernment of the Spirit". continued
