In keeping with The Toast's nautical theme, I hereby nominate Hillary Clinton to be Pirate Queen of the Nerd Witches.

This piece speaks to my soul. I was already a supporter but my enthusiasm has gone up tenfold. Hillary Clinton has become an outstanding campaigner, ya'll!

Saplings!

My dad has bought several young fruit trees every year since I was in middle school. He has long hoped to have a mini orchard in the backyard so he and my mom can stop buying their fruit at the grocery store. Since they live in the northeast, without fail, 2 out of 3 saplings die by the fall. But hope springs eternal (pun entirely intended)!

I hated the Diva cup. But I love Instead cups--they're shaped more like diaphragms and I found them to be far more comfortable and user-friendly than the Diva Cup. They're not bulky so they're easier to carry and insert and they offer the same advantages--you can put 'em in before your period starts. They are reusable. And you can even do the freaky-deaky with them in.

ALL MY SUCCESSFUL ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS.

(For real--I like to be pleasantly surprised by my partner in large and small ways. Boredom, not contempt, is the death of romance for me. As you might suspect, this toddler-like approach to dating has resulted in my continuing, blessed singledom).

Not at all. Especially since there is a convincing argument that Bill may be unconsciously undermining his wife in his haste to defend his own record. He made similarly terrible comments when he was campaigning for her in 2007/8. But he became very effective right after Hills conceded (remember his excellent speech for Obama at the convention?)

What's pissing me off is that various (male) columnists and bloggers I read have been blaming Bill's crappy behavior on Hillary. Even the more sympathetic ones are saying she needs to put a tighter leash on her husband. While I'm all for leashing men, I suspect the reality of marriage to a high-powered male ex-pres makes doing that incredibly difficult.

And even if she did manage to put a lid on him, people would go back to citing lazy tropes about him being 'whipped' or henpecked. It must be maddening for her.

It's not a gothic novel unless the heroine is being denied food.
