I didn't do that one, but I *did* try to cast the travelling bed spell on a ring that I found on the playground. (Something I could both wear and twist!)

Northwoods and smoked gouda is the *best* grilled cheese.

It's a kind of chess pie, using vinegar to cut the sweetness instead of (less scary to modern bakers) citrus.

It's honestly quite good and you don't taste the vinegar. Plus it's really easy to make. If you want an easy, tasty pie that will scare people with the name, I recommend it.

It's been darchildre since I first got on aol. I was a 13-year-old proto-conlanger (and very bad at it), it was a word in the language I was making up, no one on aol had already taken it.

No one has *ever* already taken it, and so now it's just my name.

Njal's Saga is the best saga!

I am unaccountably fond of the bit where people discover that Hallgerd stole food during the famine by snitching all the leftover bits of cheese and fitting them back together in the original cheese mold. CSI Medieval Iceland!

This will always be my favorite vintage comic book ad:

I just have so many questions! How were they shipped? *Were* they shipped - did anyone ever actually receive a monkey they bought through an ad in a comic book? How many monkeys died after being a fed an exclusive diet of lollipops? Truly, a mystery for the ages.

I always feel this way about food. I mean, I like eating well enough, but so much of my life is devoted to planning food and preparing food and consuming food and cleaning up after food, and then I have to do the whole goddamned thing again.

I am waiting for the food pills that sci-fi promised me.

They recently *removed* the in-stall wastebaskets from every bathroom in the Washington state ferry system, both on the boats and in the terminals. The ferries that countless numbers of people use to commute every day. Now they just have these sad metal stands where the wastebaskets used to be, taunting all of their female passengers. Every time I have to use the bathroom on a ferry, I am filled with rage.

To be fair, part of my interest in the sewer section continuing for as long as Victor Hugo wanted was that I knew that Javert was going to die right after it and I would be stuck with no one but Valjean in full Martyr mode, Cosette the nonentity, and Marius Pontmercy, King of Goobers.

Marius does *so many* ridiculous things, it's easy to let one slip the mind.
