Thanks for the info. I would never have guessed Sandy Soil at that altitude, though it makes since since we have very sandy soil at a mile high. I love the idea of acidic soil and 63% more moisture.

Just a fast off subject question. A 2000 square foot roof receiving about 27 inches of precipitation a year, would create about 32,400 gallons of water that is being directed away from the house and routed down hill. How is that going to work with the driveway being down hill? I would hate to have to use a grader on that long drive every two to three years.

Isn't it odd - how much the blog cabin and the urban oasis are decorated so similar? Exterior paint colors, the floor colors, the head boards in the quest room and the oasis master headboards, the hassocks...

I love the cabin and I love using the product. but. Simple Green Cleaners is certainly getting a lot of coverage at this cabin.

I'm wondering about the space behind the laundry room. If all it contains is the well pump and a water softener, you might be able to use it as a storage for items put up for the winter, fancy china etc. Of course getting it upstairs and downstairs would be a bit difficult (especially if you've canned much of your summers bounty.)

I love the cabin but it does feel of retreat center rather than a personal dwelling. If I was going to try and come up with more bedding areas I would have a few questions.
I seem to remember when the cabin was first being planned there was a question as to whether the old septic system would be adequate, and the north side was excavated for the possible need for a new septic system. Now that area is used for the hot tub.
How large is the septic system (how many people is it meant to used by?) The second part of this question would be - How much excavation would it take to add second septic system or hook into the current system?
What would it cost to have a property management system ,collect rents, go is after each rental and clean etc.? You could avoid this if you could live in part of the property and rent the rest ... bed and breakfast?

Are you aware of the Bunker Hill Mining and Metallurgical Superfund Site on going clean up (about 35 miles from blog cabin?) The Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer does look pretty good though.

My favorite feature is how close the outside cooking area is to the kitchen. A good work flow around or through prep and cooking areas - allows for visiting or "helping" without tripping over each other. The cooks will be able to enjoy whats happening in the yard, on the deck or in the house. Well planned.

But if you sit at the island you're missing the beautiful views (unless you have a beautiful spouse.)
