I've not seen any averages, but I would guess that it's somewhere between 10-15 plugins. Many plugins have their own CSS files that have to be loaded, as well as the plugin code. Use Google Webmaster tools to test the load speed of your blog, and if it's too slow, try getting rid of some plugins.

What you can do with most autoresponder systems (such as AWeber) is to add custom fields to your form. For example, when they're signing up to get on your "Dog Training Tips" newsletter, have them tell you the dog's breed, age, etc. Then, you can include these custom variables on any autoresponder message.

Some autoresponder systems allow you to segment your lists (by dog breed, for example), and send custom messages to those segmented lists.

If you're using personalized URL's, do something like this: www.yourwebsite.com/FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME. You can then build this personalized URL inside an autoresponder message by inserting the firstname, followed by the underline, and followed by the last name. The only problem with this approach is when you have duplicate names, and that's where specialized PURLs software comes into play.

The specialized PURLs software eliminates duplicates by appending a suffix to each duplicate. However, these systems currently do not provide autoresponder capabilities. They only provide broadcast message capabilities (manual).

Yep... Wordpress is "The" content management system today. I've still got a couple of Joomla sites running, but they're so much more complex to manage than Wordpress. Plus, they never guarantee that an upgrade will be backward compatible. Wordpress is much better.

I should have a slew of new videos for this tutorial next week. It's a long story...

The easiest are by far those that don't require any coding. If you see the word "plugin" associated with one of these, that means it's a simple plugin with no coding on your part.

Try those first, and definitely read the article on SEO (near the bottom of the list).

Great question. Firebug will tell you the exact line number of the CSS code. Go to your Wordpress control panel and click on "Appearances". Then, Click on "Editor". On the right hand side, scroll to the bottom where you see "Styles".

That's where you'll find the CSS files for your blog theme. You click on the file name and edit the CSS file right there.

There are many decent tutorials online for CSS files. Just search for "CSS Tutorial" and hopefully you'll find one that give you what you need.

Hi Sandi!

Nice use of the Thesis theme!

Couple of suggestions: 1) Move a couple of the widgets to Sidebar 1. It looks a little strange with only Sidebar 2 occupied.

2) Shorten some of your link names in the top NAV section so that they all fit on one line.

Hi Ric,

Yes, we're working on these Roadmaps... See the bright yellow box above with "Want More..."? Just enter your request there and it will be added to the master "To Do" list. The more requests we get for these roadmaps, the higher they'll get on the list!

In the mean time... I agree. You can't do it all. I'd say that what's most needed today by businesses will be help with their web copy first, then email/autoresponder second. If you learn how to write effective web copy, you're well on your way to writing quality autoresponders/emails.

There are thousands (or more) "SEO" experts out there. However, as you learn how to write good copy, you might also want to learn the basics of SEO. The main thing about web copy is the copy itself. Plugging in keywords into the appropriate places comes AFTER you write the effective copy... and it's not all that hard. The "Real" work of SEO comes after the web pages are loaded onto the site. Watch for some webinars and teleseminars in the coming months on the latest SEO tactics.
