Weirdly, the toilet-cover seat thing happened to me too with a post-op nurse a few years ago! I was in recovery and as soon as I was conscious enough to stand relatively unassisted I NEEDED to pee. It was not a good a situation.
Thank you for posting this. As a fellow adoptee, you articulated so well many of the things that really, really bother me about the way people talk about adoption. Often I feel the adopted children's voices are the ones completely drowned out, and the savior narrative and violation of privacy inherent in these crowdfunding campaigns really skeeves me out.
Did you ever see the Blue Pill? They are dead on accurate mocking their posts. Much needed blast of sanity if you're ever lurking too long...
As long as the ads aren't slowing my browser down, I have no problem with them. Also, I love this liverjournal style of comment format!
This is too perfect.
Has there been a dirtbag Coco Chanel yet? Can we submit requests?
Thank you! Similarly, my science classes all had a requirement that the beginning of the semester you let them know about events, holidays etc. so they could schedule labs accordingly. It really isn't that difficult to honor reasonable requests.
What does that even mean?!
Wow, did not notice these comments so long ago but I just wanted to follow up here- you're 100% right, they were, and it was dealt with (though not without a lot of hassle and a very uncomfortable rest of the semester for all of us.) Once I was past my freshman year and knew how the system worked I knew where to go in situations like this. While 99.99% of my experiences with professors were wonderful and understanding, there were more than a few that did not seem to understand "religious observation" or "ADA requirements" and those bad experiences unfortunately linger.
Let me rephrase my original statement- just like many Christians attend church only on major holidays, so do many Jews attend synagogue. Likewise for many other religions. The difference in the USA is that minority religions are often treated in a way that Christianity is not.
this is hilarious but badminton seems kind of off to me? I've always associated it with WASP culture since where I'm from, it has such a "garden party"/"English sport" connotation. Also, it's been a staple of East Coast summer BBQ since I was a child, and badminton is a required part of middle/high school gym in the state I was raised. Maybe this is like an east coast/west coast divide thing? Because if anything ball badminton was colonized by the English and turned into today's badminton sometime in the 1700s, not exactly something that's going to happen soon....
Thank you for your strength in telling this.
