Awe thank you Elle. It truly makes me happy if my little article helped you in any way. The credit goes to the excellent mind of C.S. Lewis. I like to point the way to his books and other minds greater than mine, because they have brought so much peace to my heart. I am in the process of leaving this blog and migrating my writing to several other more focused blogs. My animal writings are going to soon appear on a blog called Planet Mates.

I believe \'A Grain of Sand\" is in the public domain in the United States. Anything published in 1923 or before is in the public domain unless someone has renewed the copyright. I need to do some checking on the other two poems because I don\'t know what year they originated. Robert Service lived until 1958.

Ruth, It's never too late to comment on my posts. That's what classics are all about - they are timeless. The truth is always relevant. Let's keep the flame of hope alive by writing, reading, and communicating. Thanks for the coming by.

Thank you so much Deborah. I recently finished To the Lighthouse and loved it too. I suppose I will post a review of that too since I have one mostly written up. Since reading Mrs. Dalloway I have been on bit of a Virginia Woolf binge. (But I have not yet read Orlando.) The strange thing is I randomly chose a recent popular novel just to come for air after my Virginia Woolf binge, and the novel I ended up reading is called "Lexicon" by Max Barry. It's a bizarre thing about a secret society of "poets" who use language to control people. These poet characters adopt pseudonyms after famous writers and the main character's pseudonym is "Virginia Woolf." The universe is messing with me I suppose.

Thank you for your comment Herbert. I have not heard from any Muslims, agreeing or disagreeing. If anyone disagrees I would just ask them to specify which statement(s) they disagree with. Part of the material comes from Hirsi Ali's personal experience. Her response to Islam is rooted in her own experience. The only way to disagree with someone's personal experience is to suggest they are lying or remembering wrong or to question their response to the experience. I'm sure her non-submissive, independent attitude does not sit well with certain groups of people. I am not inclined to doubt Hirsi Ali's interpretations but it would certainly be interesting to hear from someone knows the Qu'ran well.

What a great choice for your book club. I wish I could sit quietly in a corner of room and listen to that discussion! I'd definitely welcome comments from those retired Humanities professors. :)

Thanks you Sharon! If you like Chesterton you will love this little collection of essays. Orthodoxy is in my all-time top five favorites list, perhaps even number one. But it's so hard to choose a favorite. I have to shuffle them around sometimes.

Well that just makes my Cleo! I'm glad your Mom is going to read the book. Although I must say it's a little embarrassing to share this stuff with my Canadian neighbors. : )

Your Dad sounds like a very wise man. In a way I just feel sorry for these people who have traded so much of their lives for the tawdry rewards the political world has to offer.

Thank you Claudine for your nice comment about my book reviews. I have enjoyed writing them. I don\'t know if I really want a mission in life or not, but if I did have a mission it would be to rediscover and encourage people to to read great literature. I am in the mood for Tolstoy during this phase of my life but at another time I would not have been as into him. You may find he fits one time in your life better than another time. If you ever decide to embark on reading Tolstoy, Anna Karenina is a great one to start with.

I had not heard of it either until a few months ago. But I'm glad I did. Thanks for visiting!
