I married a guy in my department, and then I quite after my master's instead of getting the PhD. I'm sure people assume I quit to avoid the two-academics-one-marriage problem, but it was really because I hated the program with ever fiber of my being! Only having to worry about getting one university job instead of two is just a fantastic, amazing, world-altering side benefit.

I had friends ("friends" may be too strong a word) who would sneak out to drive when they were 12/13. I was always TERRIFIED they would come by my house and ask me to come along, but they never did. They probably had me sized up pretty well.

That was one I LOVED while I was actually reading it, and then after I put it down I was like, "Wait, what?"

And then I read the same author's Her Fearful Symmetry, which is the stupidest book of all time, and I hated it so much it made me retroactively hate The Time Traveler's Wife.
