I agree Miami Bob. However, what does the law say? Are enhanced interrogation techniques torture? If yes, then the US has signed treaties against torturing. Bush received a favorable opinion on EITs from his AG. Wouldn't this make him culpable?

If the detainees are not POWs then what are they? However, you don't have to be a US citizen to receive protection under the constitution (All PEOPLE are created equal; not just CITIZENS).

Interesting conundrum. Post 911 American was a different place than the present. The detainees are scum. KSM cut Daniel Pearl's head off. However, the law is paramount and no one is above it.

God certainly has a place at a patient's last moments. If he/she chooses suicide, it is their personal choice. I personally have never experienced the kind of agony the dying experience. Choosing death over agony is a personal decision. Probably not right for you but certainly right for others. The governement should have no say in this decision. I am a physician and I personally would never assist suicide. I have taken an oath to protect life. Withdrawing support and hospice measures are something entirely different.

Fundamental to life is being able to feed. Once a person is not able to take in nutrients any longer, he/she can't survive. I feel for your loss chevy400. I lost a grandmother to dementia. She languished for over 10 years in a persistent vegetative state. My mother and grandfather kept her alive with feeding tubes, surgeries, etc. I was powerless to stop them. Most of the time families act this way out of some misguided sense of duty to their loved one. Over time it often becomes selfishness. A demented patient would not be able to give consent for assisted suicide therefore would not be a candidate. However, restricting nutrients, fluids, antibiotics, etc is acceptable. Folks I am not advocating mass murder. On the contrary, we as Americans need to realize that we can't save everyone and we don't live forever. I would much rather be remembered as a spirited, talkative Irishman than a demented Alzheimer's patient. Its all about DIGNITY. Taking to to the Logan's run suicide chamber level is comical but not practical.

What is the difference between turning off a ventilator, stopping dialysis or being injected with drugs that end someone's life? As a physician, I have seen hundreds die. Death is a part of life. Determining one's own eventual demise is the essence of Liberty (provided one is not depressed, suicidal, etc)

It starts here doesn't it? Grassroots campaigns such as the 912 project represent whats right in America. If we can each convince 5 Americans (right or left) to abide by the 9 Principles, we will take back our Country. Last year, I left the Republican Party and moved to Libertarianism. I began to read the Constitution (the 1st time since I was in Junior High), books on our forefathers and founders, and have been transformed into a much different American. Ultimately, Americans will throw both regimes out of power and we will remake this country in the Founders' original image. I find it quite tough to organize Libertarians as they tend to be self regulators and not Activists as commonly portrayed by the left and right. How do we organize our cause?

Don't you think American's will be much more inclined to support a 3.5T dollar budget, national health care, expansion of entitlement programs, nationalization of banks, etc if the economy is turning around?

My brother in law was an assistant manager for a hedgefund. He told me 5 years ago that a huge bubble in the market and real estate is being created by very low interest rates and lax lending standards. I should have listened to him....................This crash was known and predicted.
