We have read all the Jaclyn Moriarty we had at hand and are waiting for more to arrive from the library. In the meantime we are rereading _Rebecca_ for the first time since high school and being blown away by all the class/social climbing parts we didn't understand back then.

Yes, our brain does that, and we do have some other forms of synesthesia. Sometimes for us it is witchy, sometimes it is just random.

Maybe Death's Other Kingdom by Gamel Woolsey? It's her 1939 book about the Spanish Civil War, but I haven't read it so I don't know if it is as awesome as I think it is going to be.
