I saw this a couple of weeks ago and thought it was amazing. Go see it if you can!
I go to concerts by myself all the time! I always bring a book to read between bands, which is actually a great conversation starter (even with band members if you're up front).
My best oatmeal chocolate chip recipe is based on this one, baking soda/hot water combo included. Mine uses double the shortening instead of butter and with that and the oatmeal it makes amazingly chewy cookies. I like to substitute a combination of toffee and butterscotch chips for the chocolate, which people really love.
Off topic, but I totally have that edition of Wuthering Heights the article illustration came from. All the illustrations are just so gorgeous & creepy that I had to steal it from my mom when I moved out.
I grew up in the Church but always kept somewhat of a critical distance from it, especially the culture. I wrote my college admission essay to BYU on feminism. They let me in AND gave me a scholarship AND that was during the big feminist excommunication scandal so who knows what they were thinking. So, uh, thanks for the Women's Studies minor & for ushering me even further along the path of godless heathenism even if it did take me several years after that to really leave.
I live like five minutes from the Winchester Mystery House which is more sad than creepy and actually pretty cool. I get freaked out easily though so I have never gone on one of the flashlight Halloween tours they do every year. I do go to the movies next door and across the street all the time though. No ghost sightings thus far.
I also used to live by the haunted Toys'R'Us in Sunnyvale. I shopped there once or twice but again, no ghosts. If you've got to be a ghost a toy store is probably a pretty sweet gig though.
I would come to the meet up but 1. Y'all are way too cool for me and 2. I have choir practice (see #1).
My favorite is The Ex-Boyfriend Cookbook. I bought it on a whim because I thought it was a cute concept but every single recipe I've made from there has been amazing.
Special Topics reminded me of The Secret History (in a good way). I even loved all the fake citations - maybe because I read so much and three fourths of what I say either reminds me of something I've read or references it.
Yeah, what is up with the random italics? They're driving me batty & I just started it yesterday. I loved Special Topics though so I'm persevering for now.
I read Cassandra At The Wedding a couple of years ago & was just blown away. It immediately got put into my "favorites" bookcase.
Jael's totally my favorite followed closely by the talking ass story that gave my friend & I giggle fits all through that Sunday School class. The teacher was so annoyed that we wouldn't stop laughing but c'mon TALKING ASS. How do you not find that hilarious?
