The other day I had NPR on while driving my 4 year old daughter home from daycare.
Kid: Hey! They said President Obama! Why didn't they say Michelle Obama?
Me: They're not talking about her right now.
Kid: Oh. I want them to talk about Michelle Obama.
Me: They're talking about who is going to be our next president. President Obama isn't going to be our president anymore next year.
Kid: Oh, ok. I want Michelle Obama to be our next president!

I'm pregnant with twins and I've been thinking a postpartum doula would be a good idea this time around (I already have a preschooler.)
Does anyone have recommendations on how to find a postpartum doula?

I feel bad when I make my dog sleep in his dog bed on the floor instead of my bed when it's too hot in the summer. (Don't worry - he jumps back up on the bed as soon as I'm asleep.)

I'm in the first trimester of my 2nd pregnancy (1st is a toddler now) and I am so thankful that my OBGYN was supportive of me staying on my depression meds throughout pregnancy. Before I started trying to get pregnant the first time, I went off my meds for a few months to see if I could do it, and it did not go well. I started my meds again and got pregnant and stayed on them throughout the pregnancy and breastfeeding and on. I had to go to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctor occasionally while I was pregnant to check in with them because I was on the meds, but no one made me feel like I was doing something wrong by staying on my meds. I feel so bad for Jane Marie and other women that are told to go off their meds. I would not have made it to a second pregnancy without them.

This was my train of thought when I found out that Jonathan Edwards was Aaron Burr's grandfather: Oh wow, I always thought Jonathan Edwards was white. In fact, I'm pretty sure he was white. I guess he was white and had a black grandson. It's not that unusual for grandparents/grandkids to be different races. I've got to watch my assumptions...
[2 hours later] oh wait, Aaron Burr actually was white too.

Last night I had a dream that I was on a committee at work to decide on a charitable cause for the company to take on next year. I suggested that we support a high school production of Hamilton and everyone agreed that was a great idea. I said that I couldn't help with the singing (even dream-me knows my limits), but that I would help with costumes and managing the cast.

My husband was worried when he came downstairs after putting our kid to bed and I was a sobbing mess. It was "Dear Theodosia" that did me in, so even Act I isn't always safe.
