I wrote my Congressman about Crap & trade

This is the reply from my congressman:

Thank you for contacting my office concerning the The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES). I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. As you may know, Representative Henry Waxman and Edward J. Markey of the House Energy and Commerce Committee have authored the discussion draft of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES).

Currently, this legislation has not yet been formally introduced into the House of Representatives.
There is no question that the United States must do more to achieve energy independence and to produce cleaner sources of energy. However, I am also deeply concerned that the cap and trade approach will lead to more taxes, higher energy costs, and fewer jobs. It is estimated that if this policy is implemented, the average family will pay $3,100 more in energy costs each year. And the hardest hit will be low income families who spend a greater percentage of their income on energy consumption than any other income category. Furthermore, various studies indicate that adoption of a cap and trade energy policy could cause between 2 million and 7 million jobs to be lost.

I share your desire to see America adopt energy policies that boost efficiency, reduce mental degradation, and eliminate our dependence on foreign producers environmental degradation, and eliminate our dependence on foreign producers. But I do not believe that cap and trade is the appropriate approach. I intend to support policies that encourage greater efficiency, conservation, and promote the use of alternative fuels. I cannot support policies that raise taxes and energy costs and put Americans out of work.
