Scripture seems to be clear that we are required to forgive. So, in that way, it is very much about one's self and how you interact with the hurt and offenses that come your way. But forgiveness is also about others as it is releasing them from any indebtedness to you.

Are you pastors in their 60s? :) Our lead pastor is not a Facebook guy but sees it as community building. Part of that is his bent as an introvert but both his kids are all in on Twitter and Facebook. It's interesting if you read Vince's post about social media from this week he talks about social media eventually fading from something we recognize to just a regular part of how we connect. I think that's the real danger for people who adamantly refuse to embrace it. They may wake up one day and find that they're no longer communicating in a way that anyone is listening to.

Chris...we've also talked about the fact that 15 years ago, especially in the south, you could just tell someone "the Bible says" and that was the end of any discussion. Now "the Bible says" has lost a lot of street cred (but none of its power). There certainly is a shift where we are toward relationships & love being the building blocks of evangelism. Far outweighing the "come to us" model, we're shifting our thinking to a "be with them" model.

I'm feeling you here, Vince. We're trying to figure our way around that as well. Just bought Leonard Sweet's book, "Viral". Our lead pastor is reading that while I'm on Cognitive Surplus. Sparking great conversations about what are we hiring Sunday morning to do versus what our people are hiring it to do. And ultimately how can we as a church create genuine community since that's what people really want as you said. (On a side note...moving to Livefyre soon...no more approval. Power to the people!)
