Haha Kelli, it was most certainly in the US, in Damariscotta, Maine to be exact. Miles Memorial Hospital, and it was freakin' awesome. Actually, you probably read about it here: http://offbeatmama.com/2010/03/a-water-birth-stor...

Everyone in my birthing class thinks I'm a nutball because more than half my questions are about the placenta. I just think the idea of my body BUILDING an organ, and then getting rid of it when it's done, is so cool! I definitely want to see mine.

I'd like to have mine encapsulated too, but no one around here does it, and I also don't think I'd be able to take them - I have a hard enough time swallowing my prenatals because they "smell funny."

This looks like it was so much fun! My friends just threw me a shower this past weekend, and I was similarly delighted with the lack of plastic crap and shower games. Instead, guests brought gift certificates for babysitting, handmade quilts and mix cds, and everyone decorated my belly with face paints and spread out on the floor with markers and fabric scraps to make a set of prayer flags for the Bundle's room. Beautiful.

I bought one of these pendants for a friend whose first baby was premature. She made me one with a clock on the belly ( http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=2... ), with the clock hands pointing to the due date - and my friend made it all the way there with her second. They really are thoughtful and beautiful.

Hahaha. We had dinner with good friends the other night, who have a 7 month old. We were discussing gay marriage (a big issue right now here in Maine) and our friend said very seriously, "I don't care what he turns out like, as long as he's not a Republican."
