Don't forget Illegal immigrants... they get insurance as long as they get knocked up just because their child will be a "US Citizen." While on that state insurance they get full coverage including dental, eye care, etc.... If I'm not mistaken, those services are for them, not their children. They then can get food stamps, WIC, daycare, etc for their "American" children. Talk about a broken system.
I blame rappers. Disagree with me all you want, but there is a large number of rappers who fawn all over Obama because of the color of his skin. They in turn endorse him, and many of the youth follow their lead. If Kanye West likes him, he must be great... right?
Parents need to take responsibility for educating their kids and making them pay attention in school. That way they don't get all of their political education from celebrities and Liberal biased media. Personally, I learned in middle school about socialism and why it is a bad idea. I learned about it again in high school, and then again in college. I paid attention though...
Okay, if you believe in socialism, how about I quit my job and you send me half of everything you earn.
That's about what socialism promotes. It punishes the hardworking and rewards the lazy. I'd love to be able to sit at home and spend time with my kids rather than work. I'm glad you are willing to work for me! Don't like the idea, well then you really don't believe in socialism.
Seriously, grow up. Don't generalize your generation. I'm a part of that generation and I believe that the government should back off and let the people rule the country. I think I should be able to decide how my hard earned money is spent. You must not have had to work a day in your life.
If you want to be socialist, move to France. Please.
Okay, I agree that the electoral college does need to be kept in place, but like many other systems in this country it needs to be revamped. The way it stands right now a couple of states make the decision for the entire country. That is why canidates only campaign in states with the majority of electoral votes. It leaves the voice of certain states (Oklahoma for example) completely out.
I'll admit, I don't know how we should "fix" the system, but I do think it needs some changing.
Yes, there was a high number of them, but characterizing the entire generation implies that they were ALL exceptional, which is highly unlikely. No generation can be generalized as a whole... otherwise I'd be a lazy socialism loving individual, like most of my generation is. I maintain that I am NOT.
On top of telling your representatives what they are doing wrong, I think that everyone should call their representatives and tell them what they are doing right if you feel they are representing you well... Many of them are, and they need to know we want them to keep up what they are doing!
It's still there, try again.
A major part of it turning the economy around was people had a reason to believe in their country. The war created jobs that didn't exist before just by pure neccessity. Yes, the government spent money, but not to stimulate the economy. They spent money on national defense. In turn people were willing to go out and work in order to help the war effort. They were willing to invest in our government. I'm of the belief that economics and sociology go hand in hand... When people believe in the government they are more likely to support it both vocally and monetarily. WWII was funded mostly with voluntary investments into the government. The people knew where their money was going so they gave it freely, while still spending elsewhere. The problem with the new deal was government decided how much money they took and where it went. When you do that people don't feel in control of their money and want to spend as little of it as possible. When government takes control of most of your money, the only way you can control the rest of it is to hold onto it.
Have you heard that song that says "My President's Black, My Lambo's Blue...." If I hear that song one more time I'm going to go insaine. I live in a college town right next to another college town that houses a major African American university. That song plays non stop, all in the cars of college students. I think my favorite line is, "Black History, Black History, no President ever done sh*t for me." Our generation is to uneducated to even slightly understand history. Otherwise they would know that Abraham Lincoln did more for African Americans than Barack Obama will ever do. It goes back to what I've been saying for awhile, he go elected on ideals, not ideas. I hate how people, especially young people, follow him blindly because he plays basketball, goes to the beach, and works out.
Next time you see one of those t-shirts ask the "Why is Obama your homeboy?" Watch the blank stares and smile a little inside because you just made them think for the first time today. :0)
I can't say I agree with that. As a statistician I understand the true concept of randomness. A randome chosen citizen sets up the possibility for the extreme from either side to be in charge. Actually if you want the people to have a larger say, more representatives representing smaller areas is a better idea. I could sit here and give you a statistics lesson, but I'm not so sure your eyes wouldn't glaze over, as it can be kinda complex. There is a reason that states incourage people to fill out their census every 10 years... they want more representatives.
Long story short, your idea would put us at the mercy of a few people. Might as well put us at the mercy of one person. What if that one person were Pelosi or Obama? See my point?
