I can relate to it, for sure. I've been told I don't have ADD, and I don't have thyroid problems, and I'm not on the autistic spectrum, and I'm not bipolar... I have depression and anxiety, and to explain my life, apparently have had since about age five. Or maybe two. And I'm just tired, at this point, of trying to find an answer, much less get any help. I don't have the energy for it.

My mom did that too. Maybe I shouldn't have laid "I'm bi" and "I'm an atheist" on her in the same conversation; maybe I overloaded her coping circuits. She calmly denied it and changed the subject.

Aw, the existential pain of a little kid. Woe. My ninth birthday, I was into horses, so my mom made me a chocolate cake with a brown horse drawn on it. I didn't have any friends to invite (I was the Weird Kid) so my grandmother, in typical fashion, made it about her and invited a crew of her friends to "help me eat my cake". Yes, 70-year-olds at a kid's birthday party. There were no decorations, nothing but the cake. I got one piece of cake and a few dumb old-person presents (like socks or whatever), and then I went off to read until they all left. That's the only birthday I remember until I was 17. Is that pathetic or what? Man, I hate birthdays.
