The violent habitual felon statute was tailor-made for a brute with his violent felony assault record.

First, your assumption that the victim is "illegal" is just an assumption. Second, the kidnapping is not her fault. Like Miss_Giving says, it is the assumptions of people like you that foments the racial divide in this country. You, Cynical1, are the problem.

I haven't been able to reply to any of your comments before they got deleted. You really are over the top with the name-calling. Please tone it down. Thank you.

Let's face it Ann, you object to anything the NC DOT engages in that does not fit within your narrow political agenda. That inflexibility is what has caused your loss of credibility, when the overwhelming majority of the "vocal contingent" has taken you to task for your inflexible political agendas of the past. I, too, was once with you on that bandwagon, and I got tired of incurring the community's scorn by obstructing progress.
Learning to compromise and accept a raised bridge, with the modern encroachment of a retaining wall, would be more reasonable if we are to retain our history, while being flexible enough to accommodate modern development. History and high speed rail can be compatible, as we pursue a 'green future' for modern, environmentally friendly, transportation alternatives. Please do not tarnish legitimate historic preservation efforts by playing yet another highly public (and unpopular) game of political "trivial pursuit".

The two options for high speed rail are: (1) Raising and restoring the existing bridge, which may indeed necessitate installation of a retaining wall in front of existing structures, or (2) Outright elimination of the bridge.
Which do you propose, as a "leader" of the "cause"?

The real clue? "Image matters." If we'd had Mike Miller's expertise, instead of a few rank amateurs, there'd be a battlefield at Trading Ford now, instead of a huge pile of rubble and an inter-governmental argument over who controls the future pedestrian bridge. The guy's a genius at orchestrating a breakdown, then stepping in as a savior. I don't begrudge him for it, I admire his political talent.

I'm way above histrionics and attention-seeking, so let's go do some preservation, shall we?
