Dang. It's really weird working out what bits of English came here from where. We spell things Britishly but apparently all our pronunciation is American, going by this and pyrex [future books, non-spoiler].
Good heart? I've always read that part about her asking and not listening as 'this is the polite thing to do but I don't really care about you', which Agnes sees through very quickly. Instead, her interest is aimed squarely at herself.
(Also hi, this is not how I wanted to return, but I didn't have anything to comment in the main.)
I asked ellbeecee to time their loan to maximise the 14 days, so we don't know yet if there's a region lock, but I'll email if kindle doesn't work out :)
That's even more disappointing :( I already knew that spoiler and a semi-related spoiler, so I suppose it's not surprising. When I think back on that whole bullshit, the fact that those books were in the system means that someone authorised their purchase in the first place, so hopefully that someone and people like them will be on the board eventually and we'll frigging move forward instead of being stuck in colonial nostalgia.
It's four or five hundred volumes in the text, but we've got to remember that this is vairagvba/jvqrfcernq npprcgnapr bs gur cevagvat cerff.
ETA: Actually, given that each proto-philosopher must write something to be a proper philosopher, that seems to be a rough count of how many philosophers there have been in Ephebe.
Meep. Good thing it's late and I'd have to wake somebody for credit card deets, so I'm still on the registering page. Thanks for the warning :)
!!! Oh gosh, that would be great! Sending you an email now. (Do not waste your shipping money, honestly. It's likeS $100 to ship between the US and Southeast Asia. Maybe a little less converted to USD but still upward of $80.)
Eee, thanks! (About Audible still having free audiobooks- do not spend your $ on shipping, lovely :D )
When I say 'my local library system', I mean the entire lot of libraries. Like, in the whole country. (We are a small country.) If something is not in my neighbourhood's library I pretty much just hop on a subway train to save postage time. But thank you about the ebook! I should remember to check it in future for other books. No luck with this one either. Man, I should figure out what my Audible password is- I know I registered for it ages ago to get that one Gaiman short story when it was going free, but I left it for so long I forgot my password and discovered too late that the file is password-locked.
I adore Evvy and her cats, and thinking about the three of them managing all those cats all through their journey cracks me up.
No favourite, they're too hard to pick.
