You are probably right. His more recent comments about the party and his colleagues will probably be brushed under the carpet along with his more extreme actions of yesteryear.

Quit your whinging Nesbitt. You and your party quite merrily agreed with passing of the appropriate bills through the Assembly. You can't complain now. Edwin Poots' gerrymandering was one of the reasons why RPA was held up back when he was Minister and he didn't get his way.

If you check you will note it was an SDLP Minister who brought the bill forward and the boundaries were independently drawn up so I fail to see how there is some sort of carve up by Sinn Fein and the DUP as you suggest.

Do you think the DUP will do the same for Paisley?

Probably. But there is always a what-about. You could bring in the Shankill Butchers, the Glenane Gang, the killings of the likes of Carol Anne Kelly into the same debate and, all of a sudden, entrenchment sets in.

I have a pet hate of fundamentalists and fanatics but you and me take sides to a lesser degree. I am not saying that we are culpable for the damage that we have suffered as a people but we do little to heal it.

This is one of the genuine comments I make on a few occasions during the week. Tomorrow I will probably return to my usual flippant self

But it is just an article by Gail Walker. I remember some years back that Gail stopped doing current affairs articles because nearly all of of them were virtual love letters to Peter Robinson. As for double standards, Northern Ireland is built on double standards. Tit-for-tat is a term almost uniquely designed for here. When one accusation is made against themuns, themuns will invariably retaliate with a similar accusation in a similar vein. We invented the word whataboutery because we choose to accuse singularly rather than concede plurally.

There is really only two sides to Northern Ireland, the subjective view is that there are various shades of culpability and apportioning blame. Innocent people are not to blame but they will apportion it as well as defend the other's principles to varying degrees.

He merely presented a simpler version of the same rationale as what Matt_1981 did already.
