but Elliott....isn't that what they get paid for....to represent the people?? and to represent those people don't you have to communicate with them?...maybe read their letters about their concerns, take their calls....maybe do a townhall meeting or two... just saying..

I can so relate to your situation growing up...i too was the lone girl with the family full of men (it made me laugh to read your entry about that time in your life!). I wasn't in the military family then but I married into one (married to a Marine officer and he comes from a long line of both Marines and Navy officers/special forces) thank you not only for your service but for your honesty and fortitude....so many of us feel the same exact way...GOOD FOR YOU for telling them to "go pound sand" (and i mean that whole heartedly)!

Mack72262...thank you for your service to this country...my husband's family too has many generations of military service (Marines) and I've grown to learn that it takes a very special kind of person to lay their life on the line for the freedom of his/her country. It saddens me that people don't appreciate more the sacrifices that our military members and their families make on behalf of all of us. So please know that there are many of us that deeply respect your service and are very grateful for it.

and for the record...America's exsistance does not depend on it's politicians, it depends on it's people. Please remember, that the govt has no money. they receive the money to function/govern from the taxpayers, or WE THE PEOPLE. So who needs who to exsist??

Elliott, i do agree, that we do need SOME government...w/o it there would be no law of the land and that is a bit too dangerous.but we do not need the govt. to do everything for us. They don't need to house us, provide us jobs, give us food;they are not a parents. Most of all we don't not need them to interfer with our consitutional rights. Those rights were awarded to us on the backs of many men/women that died for our freedom. and no one including our govt. has the right to take that away. The govt.needs to provide defense for our country/some basic laws/regulations to live by. This raising of our children to think that they are entitled to things needs to stop. We have 40% of our country that does not pay into taxes and next 10% only pays 3% of the total tax revenue. How can a country survive when only half of the people are doing the work , while the other half just lives off them? this is a bad road we've gone down and we need to turn around.

I think congress deserves pay. But why R they not paid like most public servents? there's many higher education govt. jobs that aren't paid nearly what congress is. The staring pay 4 an FBI agent is less than $50,000, they have basic med ins (it's actually difficult to find Doctors .that even take it!), and they are made to retire in the their early 50's! Why R the policians held to different standards than other fed employees? politicians make 6 fig/yr, they vote in their own raises, they receive pensions for life after only 1 term (even if convicted of a crime while serving), they take tons of kick backs and get sweetheart deals that are, if not illegal, definately are a conflict of interest and border on illegal (things that would most definately cost the majority of americans their jobs in they did similar things). and worst yet, they can stay in office for life so long as they tell enough lies to the people and raise enough money by selling votes for campaign donations. where on earth can you find any other job like that? That's outragous and unacceptble. There really needs to be TERM LIMITS!

Part 2: Cases go down, we don't know all the facts they do and sometimes mistakes in the heat of a dangerous moment are made. they aren't pushing #s or doing surgery during their workday, they are dealing with people that want to hurt them/others. they don't just ramdomly target people.if they have a file on you it's for good reason. I'm tired of hollywood/the media making them out to be above the law types that care about no one. These are hard working good people that try their best to protect us. i should know cause i'm married to one. I married him because I never met anyone in my life that loved our country and was willing to sacrafice what ever it took to protect it as much as he was/is. Through him I had the pleasure of meeting many men/women of our military/law enforce. and i have to say i have never met finer people in all my life. Are there a few bad apple in the group as a whole? i'm sure there are (in any group there always is) but the good ones far out # the bad ones. They are normal Amreican citizens feeling the same way we are these days and are just as frustrated by it.

Part 1 of my response: woogie, I'm not trying to defend anyone who's ever been on a power trip or has made mistakes in our history.i'm sure given the history of any country you can find many cases where people were in the wrong on both sides of the situation. but i do feel the need to stand up for our men and women that go out on the front lines both foreign and domestic to protect us every day. They see and deal with things that most of us could not even imagine. They are in danger in most situations they face.something most of us never have to deal with in a normal work day. They do it voluntarily and for not much pay. They do it because they truly believe in the cause and in our rights as American citizens.i think that demands a certain amount of respect.
