Holy crap- an accident on the bridge is bad enough, but I can't imagine being banged up, opening my eyes and staring straight at the water. Here's hoping they got the driver out OK and safely. This one may be tricky for the first responders too- good luck guys.

Just curious how fast the driver of the Escort was going. It's been a while, but I think the speed limit near the tunnel is 35 mph. You don't have enough momentum anywhere near 35 mph to rear end someone then "overturn several times."

Sad to hear about the driver, and my thoughts go out to his family- but I'm even more relieved the other driver is OK. I've seen enough nutcases and drunks out there on the interstates to know this could have ended even more badly.

Unfortunately I expect this will only get worse- most everyone is for shrinking budgets, and rightfully so, but there are plenty of people who somehow imagine less money doesn't equate to less services. That's how the country got into this predicament- everyone can offer cuts of big dollar amounts or percentages, but no one likes to be confronted with the actual line-item realities.

Hopefully they will work their priorities right and get this fixed... as much as I hate the traffic from tourist season, VB busineesses need their money. If I didn't live here, and if I-264 as it is now was my "welcome to the city" impression? Woof.

Good news story for a great cause! Though I must admit I always get a chuckle out of " raise money for cancer." To me it always sounds like you're saving up to give people cancer, instead of raising money for research, treatment, or a cure.

Someone enlighten me, because I don't understand this: "use of a firearm resulting in the murder of a witness." So instead of Homicde, the intended action, he's charged with using a gun that just happened to "result in a murder."

I'm pretty sure it's basically a homicide charge, but the wording of the charge leaves just a little bit of confusion.

I wonder if there's some insurance fraud hidden in there. I guess one way to hide the fact you are torching your own building is to make it just one of a string of many, focusing the attention away from the true intent. Just pure speculation of course, but this is getting out of hand.

I'm sure some businesses didn't help either... Some of these accidents were entirely self-inflicted. Here at Fort Eustis, they waited until it had accumulated for an hour before letting people leave "early" at 4:00. Of course they also didn't treat the roads first in preparation. With my car moving under idling power only, I still was sliding and fishtailing trying to leave- thankfully I wasn't one of the accidents.

Airline delays at ORF. In other news, the sky is still blue. Film at 11.
