I think a fundamental difference between those Americans who love capitalism and want our country to continue to uphold the constitution and those that want socialism is the idea of abundance. A capitalist believes in abundance. There are plenty of resources for everyone to be comfortable. It just takes hard work and endurance. If you fail at one thing, you can try another. This doesn't mean that hard times won't come upon you, but you can get out of those times by working hard, learning new skills and trying new approaches. Everyone can be well off. The better a company does, the better the workers are paid. Not just the boss enjoys a better life, but her employees circumstances improve too. Furthermore, the employees learn new skills and can advance to better positions and even create businesses of their own. They can bypass having a boss at all and become an entrepreneur from the start. This is America! This is what the American dream is all about!!
The socialist, on the other hand, believes that there is a limited supply of wealth. Only a few will get it if left to their own devices. Therefore, the government must provide a way for everyone to have enough. Many of these people have good hearts and just want to look after the poor, but they are misinformed. They don't understand the reasons behind capitalism and the failures that befall socialism.
In capitalism, everyone has the opportunity to have plenty, but not everyone takes that opportunity. This is where many people get confused. They believe that because not everyone takes that opportunity, the system is broken. Come on, America, let's wake up and realize what a great thing our founding fathers gave us in the constitution and with the system of capitalism that gives every American the opportunity to make his (or her) dream come true.
Move to a socialist country then and let us keep our constitutional freedoms and sovereignty. You can enjoy your government controlled life while we go on with our self-controlled one. You can have your government dole so that you never have to work. We will go on working to build wealth and have a life socialists only dream of. You can have the trickle up poverty begat by socialism while we have rags to riches success stories only possible with capitalism.
My dad voted for the Libertarian candidate (even though he is a registered republican) and I thought he was throwing his vote away. He said that he couldn't vote for either McCain or Obama on principle. I now understand what he meant and I wish I had stood up with him too. How do we first find a trustworthy candidate to support and then get the word out so we can get back to the basics of our constitution? Suggestions, please. And also, what can we do TODAY to make a difference so that the runaway train that is the out of control spending in Washington comes to a halt?
