Shopify (that's the current platform we're hosted on) have enforced https on every page. The historic comments are still all "there" - but can be viewed only on the http versions of the various blog pages; but as every http page now resolves to its https equivalent, then viewing those historic comments is going to be problematic. This is a policy change by Shopify and one they have enforced at very little notice.
I'm in touch with Shopify asking them to reverse what they have done but they are almost certain to refuse. Whichever way it goes it looks like a change of platform is going to happen. For now, we're a bit hobbled old-comments-wise is all.
