I have been teaching for 12 years in Tennessee and am making around $27 per hour. We are paid for 200 days of work per year, but put in many, many hours of uncompensated time. Based on your post, I am just like the average taxpayer. I would agree that there are some really bad teachers out there, but you can't lay all of the blame of failing schools on teachers. We have a generation of parents who are NOT parenting. Many parents are more interested in their new boyfriend or girlfriend to take an interest in their children. If not this reason, then there is the ever-present self-absorption that Americans seem to be developing. There is no pressure from home to strive to achieve academically because that would take time out of their self adoration. After all, it is much easier to blame someone else for their own failure. It is time that the root cause of public school failure is acknowledged.

Ok. My conscience got the best of me...I still need to finish reading the book about Bonhoeffer that Glenn Beck recommended. I am just about one-fourth through and my goal is to finish it over the Christmas break. I will put "All the Devils are Here" on my reading list. So many books, so little time...sigh.

Could this possibly be why Tennessee is now letting the TSA do random road inspections. This is not just trucks, but cars also. Is it just my disillusioned self, or is the president just recycling the same old thing? Another thing, we are $14.7T in debt. Why are we cutting taxes on those who still have jobs? I know this will not be popular, but economically this is a dumb idea for our country's sake. The thing needed is more workers who can pay taxes. I have not heard any real solutions. Too little, but what I expected.
